Queen Elisabeth II
 Born: 21 April 1926
 Queen since 6 February 1952

Queen Elisabeth II (Elisabeth Alexandra

Mary) was born on 21 April 1926 at 17
Burton Street, London. Her birthday is celebrated in Britain on the second
Saturday of June each year. This day is called the Trooping of the Colour.
Queen Elisabeth II is a constitutional monarch, which means that the country
is actually run by the government, led by the Prime Minister.
Queen Elisabeth II lives at Buckingham Palace in London. Her Majesty The
Queen’s title is “Elisabeth the Second, by the Grace of God of the United
Kingdom of Great Britain AND Northern Ireland”.
The Queen is married to His Royal Highness Duke of Edinburgh. They married
on 20 November 1927.
68
The Queen does not normally use a surname, she does not need a

passport or a driving license, but when it is necessary, she uses the

surname Windsor.

Selfies are super popular these days, but if you meet the Queen, asking to take a
photo with her is an absolute faux pas.

When meeting the Queen, a handshake must be initiated by her—don’t stick

your hand out first. And aside from that first handshake, at no time should you
touch the Queen, or you’ll be breaking serious protocol.

Queen Elizabeth II has very famously been a dog lover from a young age. The
Queen hasn’t only owned corgis—she has also owned several dorgis. What’s a
dorgi, you ask? It’s the product of crossing a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and a
Dachshund.

In addition to corgis, the Queen is often given animals as gifts during state visits.
She has been given two sloths by Brazil, black beavers by Canada, and an
elephant by Cameroon—plus two tortoises, a chameleon, a Russian bear, a
crocodile, and two pygmy hippos. Any live animals given to the Queen are often
housed in the London Zoo.

A statute from 1324 that’s still legally on the books gives the Queen ownership
over all the dolphins in the UK and in British waters.

Should the Queen decided to order a pizza to Buckingham Palace, she’d never be
caught without cash on hand. Buckingham Palace has its own ATM for use by the
royal family.

Do not look at the text. How much do you remember?
