CHALLENGE
Handling and tooling large parts for industrial process in the aeronautical sector as sealing, welding, WAAM … might be time
and specific knowledge demanding. In addition, different tools may be needed for different references of manufactured parts,
which can require high investments.

PROPOSED SOLUTION
The SOFOCLES project proposes a flexible solution using two collaborative robots working in coordination with flexible and
reconfigurable grippers to achieve a robotic cell acting as manipulator placing the part in the different positions necessary to
carry out the desired operations and as tooling keeping the part in position during the operation.

BENEFITS DEVELOPMENTS
• Reduction of the time of positioning and clamping the parts; Using collaborative AURA robots with high payload
• Elimination of errors in the positioning and clamping of the parts in working in coordination and the monitoring of the working
the cell,; area allow the operator to interact safely with the robotic cell.
• cost reduction of the needed tooling by its flexibility;
• reduction of the costs of the cell, by using the same system for TRL7 validation of the SOFOCLES solution.
handling and tooling;
• Elimination of risks in the handling of large structural parts by the Development of the coordination of the movement of two industrial robotic arms
operators, by the implementation of a safe and efficient H-R in a collaborative robotic cell through an external SW, maintaining the
collaborative system. independence of the controls to allow modularity in a flexible production plant.
• Flexibility of the production plant since the solution allows the use
of standard robots that can be used in a coordinated way or The digital twin allows continuous monitoring of the cell.
independently.
The virtual reality tool will help in the cell's offline programming stage.

The reconfigurable and flexible gripper allows the cell to handle parts of different
sizes and the compliant element allows the efforts in the parts to be acceptable.

Europe’s working-age population will likely shrink by 13.5 million (or 4 percent) by

AGV / AMR sorting solutions allow to increase flexibility of small automated sorting
“ Thanks to EIT we were able to create an international
competence team in a short time, developing a new sorting
centers. Today there are 2 types of solution on the market:
- collaborative vehicles, able to load and pick objects in the same area where operators
solution with limited initial investments
work. One of the safety measures is to keep a low speed for operator protection. So
overall performance of the sorting system is low.
- high speed vehicles, like Fives GENI-Ant, running in confined sorting areas only. This
leads to a higher system performance, but lower application flexibility.
The MARS project aims at offering the best of both worlds: a sorting AGV/AMR able to
run at high speed in a confined zone, but also able to leave the confined zone and move
safely in the same area with operators.

Dependency of transports and logistics services are becoming more extreme for manufacturing,
increasing uncertainty and originating higher production costs, decreasing competitiveness.
Collaboration in international supply-chains is still difficult given the high level of different entities,
supporting technologies, different language standards, regulations, lack of information, and time
zones involved, namely in exports settings.

SOLUTION
Developing and piloting a collaborative platform to increase the digital interaction between
industry and logistics stakeholders to ensure competitiveness by applying improved cost
calculation methods and reducing contextual costs by exchanging electronic documents
