4.2.1. Contractor shall provide licensed surveyor for setting out the piling points and to
carry out ECC survey after piling work has been done.
4.2.2. The location of pile will be surveyed according to approved drawings and
marked on site by driving a metal rod into the ground. A brightly colored tape
should be fastened to the end of rod for easy identification.
4.2.3. Piles shall be driven by placing the center of pile on the metal rod marked by
surveyor.
4.2.4. The maximum permitted deviation of the pile center from the centre-point shown
in the setting out drawings shall be 75mm in any direction unless specified by
consultant.
4.3.1. Materials shall be unloaded to the designated storage area on site and/or
adjacent to work area where appropriate.
4.3.2. Any material delivered does not meet the requirement shall be rejected or
segregated to prevent unintended use.
4.3.3. 2 points lifting position to be pitched at 0.2 x L distance from pile end unless
otherwise stated by manufacturer.
4.3.7. No piles shall be allowed for driven before achieving required concrete strength
or 28 days after pile casted.
ii. If the foundation is soft, steel plate shall be placed underneath the machine as a
temporary platform.
i. Piles shall be clearly marked with a paint at 500mm c/c interval along its length
for record purpose.
ii. All handling and lifting of piles shall be located at the designated lifting and
support points as recommended by supplier’s brochure.
iii. Safety supervisor shall ensure no personnel shall within the lifting radius during
lifting, pitching and installation work.

i. Before start driving, the head of pile shall be protected by a helmet of cast steel
or mild steel fitting closely around the pile. Packing of plywood shall be placed
within the helmet to reduce the impact from stacking to the pile head.
ii. The top of the helmet shall be recessed and fitted with plywood to prevent
damage to the pile head.
iii. The height of drop for the hammer shall be checked by the contractor.
iv. Verticality of pile and hammer shall be checked by spirit level and visual
inspection by operators and welders.
v. An additional brass plumb bob to attached inside the driver seat and leader to
ensure the verticality of pile.
vi. To avoid the damage of pile, BS 8004 states that the height of stroke of a single-
acting or drop hammer should be limited to 1.2m and preferably not more than
1.0m.
vii. Where piles are driven below the level of the bottom of the leads of the pile
frame, extension pile shall be fitted.
viii. The “set” must be obtained by record the total penetration per 10 blows to
ensure it is below 25mm or specified by consultant before driving can be
stopped.
4.5.1. When a lower pile segment is driven close to platform level (ground surface),
stop driving and remove pile driving hammer and helmet.
4.5.2. Clean the joint plates of both lower and upper pile segment and remove mud and
dust with wire brush.

4.6.1. When driving to a set criterion, the final set of each pile shall be recorded as the
penetration in millimeters per 10 blows produce a penetration of maximum 25mm
or defined by engineer.
4.6.2. To record penetration per blows, a graph paper will be attached on the pile
surface, and a timber used to guide the pencil shall be firmly scatted on the
ground.
4.6.3. Draw a line on the graph paper, attached the pencil on the graph paper and draw
the movement of pile during striking.
4.7.1. Piling contractor shall provide piling record which included the number of blows
taken to penetrates the pile into the ground for every 5oomm interval, a graph
paper with pile set pattern and other details as required by consultant.
4.8.1. After the completion of piling works, contractor shall submit as-built drawing
which indicates the actual pile position on site. This drawing shall be prepared
and endorsed by a licensed surveyor and shall include the following information:
-
4.9.1. Pile cut-off level shall be specified by main contractor according to drawings.
4.9.2. Pile head shall be cut by mechanical cutter/diamond cutter to form flush cut
surface.
4.9.3. Starter bars from pile shall be exposed to required length if stated in drawing.
4.9.4. All cut-off piles shall be disposed as waste material from site.
