    STATEMENT OF PURPOSE (JAMIU JABARU)

    The zeal to broaden my knowledge and enthusiasm to contribute to solving some of the
    mathematical problems faced by the industry today is the reason I aspire to pursue a
    Master’s degree in Mathematics at your institution. I am a second-class upper division
    graduate of Mathematics with honors from the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

    In my final year at the University of Port Harcourt, I had a research work experience on the
    comparative studies to solution of a partial differential equation using some analytical
    methods of solution such as; characteristics method, separation of variable method and
    Alembert method with some boundary value conditions. This undergraduate research work
    furnished me with the idea of balancing collaborative and individual work and has made me
    determine this area of interest. Most importantly, this has been crucial for my graduate
    study aspiration.

    Since my graduation, I have been in a volunteer part-time teaching job for the past four and
    a half years where I have been coaching students to excel in various qualifying exams such
    as; the West African examination council (WAEC), Joint Admission Matriculation Board
    (JAMB), Standardized American Test (SAT).

    In the course of my volunteer work, I enrolled in a training school where I completed nine
    months of training in data science and learned some of the techniques used to analyze data
    including the use of python programming language to analyze some sets of data in a real-
    world situation. More significantly, my quest for knowledge has led to my aspiration to do a
    master’s degree in mathematics, to have an insight into the real-world application of
    mathematics in solving some of its related problems faced by industries.

    Furthermore, I wish to study for a master’s degree in Mathematics in an institution with


    highly qualified professors and lecturers having better teaching methodologies to provide
    an ideal learning environment for students. Fortunately, Hull university fits that category of
    the institution because it is made up of brilliant backing staff as well as fantastic facilities for
    all courses. Also, the university is affordable and its location is easy to get to and get to other
    places from. More so, the university has students from all around the world studying in
    various disciplines which may also be an opportunity for one to build a strong professional
    network by working together.

    Also, being a graduate of mathematics with a strong grasp in most of the undergraduate
    courses, I, therefore, believe that my educational background has instilled in me the
    qualities required to meet the rigor of this demanding course, and subsequently, the
    profession. I bring along with me a strong grasp of fundamentals in Mathematics, unique
    and relevant work experience, a passion to learn, a yearning for teamwork and leadership,
    and a fervor for surmounting challenges. Hence, I sincerely hope that I qualify for all the
    requirements for admission into your Graduate Program and that my application is
    favorably received by the admission committee.
    After my study, I would proceed to do my Ph.D. to enable me to contribute significantly in
    the field of Mathematics as that is one of my career goals.
