Rubrik Edge
Rubrik Edge is a software-only version of the Rubrik Cloud Data Management product.
Ideally suited for a branch or remote office, Rubrik Edge™ provides the data management capabilities of
a single Rubrik™ CDM node in an easy to deploy virtual machine. Rubrik Edge meets the requirements of
branch locations that do not have data workloads that require a full Rubrik cluster.
Rubrik Edge provides the same user interface and is used in the same way as Rubrik CDM instances. For
information about using the features of Rubrik CDM, refer to the Rubrik User Guide.

System Setup
Set up Rubrik Edge using the Rubrik CLI and perform other post-deployment tasks.
Software encryption-at-rest
When software encryption-at-rest is enabled during the system setup, use the Rubrik web UI to configure
Rubrik Edge with information about the KMIP server and perform at least one key rotation before
restarting Rubrik Edge. This task must be done before restarting Rubrik Edge to permit access to the
encrypted Rubrik Edge.
To provide enhanced security for Rubrik Edge encryption keys, rotate the keys. The method required to
rotate the keys depends on whether the keys are internally managed or are managed through an external
key manager. Rotating an encryption key through Rubrik Edge or an external key manager replaces the old
key by generating a new cryptographic key.
After deploying and setting up Rubrik Edge, additional data disks can be added. The additional data disks
must be the same size as the existing data disks. The total data disk capacity cannot exceed the maximum
permitted capacity. The steps to add additional data disks depend on Rubrik Edge licensing.
Registration
Rubrik Edge virtual machines, and previously unregistered Rubrik Edge virtual machines, must be
registered with Rubrik Support. When the associated Rubrik cluster can establish an Internet connection
with the Rubrik Support Portal, use the online registration method. When the associated Rubrik cluster
cannot establish an Internet connection with the Rubrik Support Portal, use the offline method.
Related Concepts

state. When the upgrade is in progress, the status command lists the state the upgrade is in, and
the states that are pending.
Upgrade goes through eleven states before successfully completing: ACQUIRING, COPYING,
VERIFYING, UNTARING, DEPLOYING, PRECHECKING, PREPARING, IMAGING, CONFIGURING,
MIGRATING, AND RESTARTING.
Upgrade on a r500 brik goes through nine states before successfully completing: ACQUIRING,
COPYING, VERIFYING, UNTARING, DEPLOYING, PRECHECKING, PREPARING, UPGRADING, AND
RESTARTING.
Check the Current upgrade status: line in the output. If the status is anything other than IDLE,
then the upgrade either cannot proceed, or is already in progress.
9. Run the upgrade pre-checks by typing cluster upgrade start --mode prechecks_only:
The upgrade system scans the file system for compressed upgrade archives, then runs only the pre-
checks.
10. Start the upgrade by typing this command cluster upgrade start.
The upgrade system scans the file system for compressed upgrade archives, creates the second
partition, then runs both the pre-checks and the upgrade.
11. Check the status of the upgrade using one of the available commands by typing one of these
commands.
• cluster upgrade status
• cluster upgrade status watch
Use the cluster upgrade status command to view the current status of the upgrade process.
Use the cluster upgrade status watch command to see a similar output to the status
parameter, but it includes an ongoing update that refreshes every 5 seconds.
When the state reaches IDLE, the upgrade is complete and successful, and the watch command
automatically terminates and returns to the command line.
Result
The Rubrik cluster completes the upgrade and runs the upgraded version of the Rubrik CDM software.
