LEARNING PLAN IN MATH

Subject Area: Statistics and Probability Year Level: Grade 11
Quarter: 3 rd
Date: 03/01/2023
Lesson/Topic: Parameter and Statistic Learning Plan Number: 5

TRANSFER GOAL
The learners in the long run and on their own will be able to
effectively demonstrate understanding of key concepts of random variables and distribution to
appropriately express mathematical reasoning in constructing statements and assertion, seek for solutions
in real-world problems using strategic thinking skills, and draw conclusions using premises gathered.

ESSENTIAL UNDERSTANDING
The students will understand that
using the concepts of random variables and distribution help us in understanding and interpreting
things involving things in business, education, formulating conclusions, and decision-making.

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS
The students will keep considering the following:
In what way can we use random variables and distribution in understanding and interpreting things
involving things in business, education, formulating conclusions, and decision making?

I. PRELIMINARIES
(Prayer and Greetings)

Review:
Ask students “How can you tell if the sampling technique used in statistics is random sampling?”.

Focus:
Parameter and Statistic

Motivation:
“I’m too SQUAREd!”
The teacher will divide students into 8 groups. The teacher will then give each group puzzle pieces
where students must think of how to orient those pieces to form a square. They will be given 2 minutes to
form the square. Whichever group solves the puzzle will be given additional points to their assessment.

APK (Activating Prior Knowledge)

Have you ever experienced being in a group? How about being a group leader?

II. LESSON DEVELOPMENT

A. Presentation of Concepts

Students will know

the parameter and statistic.

Student will be able to:

 distinguish between parameter and statistics,
 evaluate what descriptive measure is used in a study, and
 construct a problem/study from each descriptive measure.

Activities
“Let’s have some label!”
Evaluate whether the following statement is a parameter or a statistic:
1. The average annual salary for 35 of a company's 1200 accountants is $68,000.
2. The average price/earnings ratio for all 500 stocks in the S&P index.
3. In a survey of a sample of high school students, 43% said that their mother has taught them
the most about managing money.
4. In a survey of a sample of computer users, 8% said their computer had a malfunction that
needed to be repaired by a service technician.
5. In a recent survey of 1503 adults in the United States, 53% said they use both a landline and
a cell phone,
6. In a recent year, the average math scores for all graduates on the ACT was 21.1.

B. Broadening of Concept (Make meaning questions)

 Why do we need to understand the difference between parameter and statistics?

C. Integration

a. Ignacian Core/Related Values: Excellence/Competence

 Why is it important to evaluate information critically?
b Social Orientation: Fake News
 How can you prevent or stop the dissemination of fake news?
c. Lesson Across Discipline: Reading and Writing
 How important is determining the credibility of information?
d. Faith/Biblical Reflection: 1 John 4:1
“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for
many false prophets have gone out into the world.”

III. EVALUATION/ASSESSMENT
General Instruction: Answer directly. Write your answers on a one-fourth sheet of paper.

Construct one study from each descriptive measure. Emphasize what descriptive measure it is by
labeling the study after every problem.
IV. CLOSURE ACTIVITY
Summary of the discussion based on the objectives:
 How can we distinguish parameter and statistics?
 How to know if a study is using a parameter/statistic?

V. PURPOSIVE ASSIGNMENT
Research anything about sampling distributions.

VI. REFERENCE/INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

 Laptop
