Modification Instructions to Install

Firmware Upgrade on Focus 35C/43C and

TRIMAX 35C/43C Detectors
Service Codes: 2169, 2173, 2277, 2278
Modification No. S2, Selective

Announcement:

This modification upgrades the detector firmware to fix the problem described with ADO 590466
occasional error in data transmission from battery to detector. The detector-battery occasionally returned
incorrect data and the detector concluded that the battery did not exist returning battery capacity zero to
the console-software, so generating error messages about battery charge level. With the new Firmware
the communication process between battery and detector has been improved by providing multiple
readings of the same data.
The following new firmware can be installed in the field or may have been installed at the factory as
indicated by the S2 code on the modification label.
• Focus 35C Detector - 1.22.9.28; Service Code: 2169
• TRIMAX 35C Detector - 1.22.9.28; Service Code: 2173
• Focus 43C Detector - 1.22.9.16; Service Code: 2277
• TRIMAX 43C Detector - 1.22.9.16; Service Code: 2278
The detector firmware version is visible using the appropriate service menus in the ImageSuite and
ImageView software, see service manuals for software applications.
The firmware version is also visible using the iDetector.exe application, for the use of this application refer
to the Focus/TRIMAX service manual.

Service Modification Definition

Selective — The modification is meant to address a specific issue that a customer is experiencing.
It provides features or capabilities that enhance the equipment’s functionality or reliability. The
modification should be completed at no charge to customers with applicable coverage by
contract, warranty, or service agreement, and with applicable charges to customers not under
contract, warranty, or service agreement coverage.

CAUTION: Biological Hazard

Traces of biological contaminants may remain on the detector, apply special cleaning
procedures and use appropriate materials. Refer to the procedure "Cleaning and Disinfection of
Patient Contact Surfaces" in the detector user manual. If necessary, use gloves and other
individual protections.

Important:
The correct firmware files must be present in the correct folder of the console-PC hard drive.
The ImageSuite and ImageView software expect the firmware file available on PC hard drive
does match with firmware version running inside detector. In case of mismatch this can trigger
the popup message “update firmware” and lead to an inappropriate downgrade of the
detector firmware.

Important:
During firmware update the detector power must be always present. Charge the battery to
more than 85 % capacity before doing a firmware upgrade. Do not remove the detector
battery until the firmware update is complete.

1. For detectors that need to be upgraded, the firmware image files are available on
the Carestream Service Asset web Portal as zip files. Browse to Focus Detector and
SOFTWARE AND FIRMWARE or MODIFICATION.

Important:
The size of each firmware image file is about 140 MB and might be corrupted during downloading
over network or during data transfer on USB portable drive. Do no skip file integrity verification
procedure.

2. Check the integrity of the firmware file.

a. The firmware file is 140 MB in size, check the zip file integrity after the file has
been downloaded from the Service Asset Portal. Use Zip application, right click
the zip file and select Test archive.

Firmware Upgrade Procedure for Image Suite Software

Firmware Upgrade Procedure for

Image Suite Software

Important:
It is highly recommended to connect power tethered, SPAK0934 to the detector when updating
the firmware. If no power tether cable is connected, charge the battery to more than 85 %
capacity before doing a firmware upgrade. Do not remove the detector battery until the
firmware update is complete.

Important:
The Image Suite software verifies the firmware files available on console-PC hard drive and the
firmware version running inside detector, in case of mismatch a pop-up message informs the
operator about the need update the detector firmware; this can lead to an inappropriate
downgrade of the detector firmware in case you install a new detector with new firmware
preloaded by manufacturing, and it is not recognized by ImageSuite software. In order for the
Image Suite software to recognize the detector firmware version correctly, the correct firmware
files must be present in the correct folder of the PC hard drive.

Important:
Firmware upgrade for Image Suite SW is the same as the former procedure for MOD S1
firmware modification (see previous Service Bulletin, SBAK5950), but in the case of this MOD
S2 at the end of the upgrade procedure the current Image Suite software version (V4MR9)
generates an error message that can be ignored without consequences; the firmware upgrade
procedure and this error message is explained below.

Firmware Upgrade Procedure for Image Suite Software

1. Copy the detector firmware file .ifrm to the correct folder on the Image Suite
console-PC depending on your Focus detector model:
» C:\DIPStorage\Focus35Cfirmware
» C:\DIPStorage\Focus43Cfirmware
2. Unzip the .zip file and extract the original firmware .ifrm file, the following picture
shows an example for Focus 35 detector. Use the relevant folder and relevant file
for your specific product (Focus 35C/43C or TRIMAX 35C/43C).

H254_0047

Note:
Do no skip file integrity verification on Image Suite PC, right click the zip file and select Test
archive.
3. Start the DIP software tool (Detector Integration Package) available on the Image
Suite station, refer to the Image Suite Service Manual (available on Service Asset
web portal) for instructions about how to run the DIP software tool.
4. From DIP software tool select the detector you are going to upgrade (some systems
may have multiple detectors), double click on the firmware version cell for the
detector you are updating.

6. Wait for the firmware update process to complete, the update procedure takes
approximately twenty (20) minutes.
7. At this point you could get the pop-up error message ERROR Firmware update
failed, this error can be ignored, see following screen shoot.

H254_0049

8. Turn off and then turn on the specific detector where the new firmware has been
loaded.

9. Check that the expected firmware version is visible in the DIP software and the
detector is working properly.
10. After completing the update, circle S2 on the Modification Label located in the
battery well of the detector.
11. Feedback the MOD activity and time against the appropriate detector accessory
Service Code, refer to the Complete the Modification section at the end of this
document.
