LESSON PLAN IN MUSIC (GRADE 7)

L.C. Explores ways of producing sounds on a variety of sources similar to
instruments being studied; (MU7LV-IIb-g-4)

I. Objectives

At the end of the 60 minutes period, students will be able to:

1. Identify ways of producing sounds on a variety of sources similar to
instruments
2. Distinguish the importance of producing sounds in the variety of
sources
3. Create and Innovate an instruments from recycled materials.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: The Characteristics of each instrument

Concept: Producing sounds in the variety of sources allows students to
explore and identify how does different instruments produce their
own sounds.
Values: Importance of producing sounds in the variety of sources.

Materials: PowerPoint Presentation

III. Procedure

A. Classroom Routine
● Prayer
● Greetings
● Attendance

B. Activity Proper
Motivation. The teacher will have an activity titled “4 pics one word”,
where there will be 4 picture presented in a Slide. Student will identify
what is the picture all about in just one word. The teacher will present 3
sets of picture

C. Analysis

The teacher will ask the students the following questions:

1. What have you observed about the activity today?

2. What are the functions of the pictures?
3. How can they produce sound?

D. Abstraction
By causing material to vibrate, musical instruments of all types
produce sound. Sound waves begin to travel through the air due to the
vibrations. Resonance is a common technique used by musical
instruments to enhance sound waves and increase volume. When an
object vibrates in response to sound waves of a particular frequency, this
is known as resonance.

Sounds can be produced by the following methods

1. By vibrating of strings

We can produce sounds by the vibration of stretched strings. Like

in guitar, the metal strings are fixed tightly between two points. When
the stretched strings are plucked or bowed, the strings start
vibrating and produce sound.
Example: Sitar, Veena, Violin, Tnapura, Santoor, Guitar, Piano And Ektara

2. By Vibrating air columns

Some musical instruments produce musical sounds by the vibrating
of air columns inside them. When we blow air in them, the
column of air enclosed in a wooden/metal tube vibrates and
produce sounds.
Example: Shehnai, Flute, Trumpet.

3. By Vibrating Membranes

Some musical instruments produce sound by the vibrations of thin

stretched membranes. Like in a drum, a thin membrane is fixed
tightly over it.
Example: Mridangam, Tabla, Dholak, Drum, and Dhapli

4. By Vibrating Plates

Some musical instruments make sound due to vibration of thick

plates. When we bang plates, it vibrates and produces
sounds
Example: Cymbals (manjira), Noot (,matka), kartal, Jal-tarang.

Reflection:

1. Regardless of their differences in producing sounds, what are their

similarities?

2. Why is vibration important in producing sounds?

D. Application

The teacher will divide the class into 4 groups. The teacher will task
the students to create a 1-2 minutes beat or music that shows the different
methods in producing sounds using any resources found inside the classroom.
The students will be givin 10 minutes to create their own piece. After 10 minutes,
the students will be asked to present their piece in front of the class. The group
presentation will be graded by the following critera:

Harmony - 5 pts
Content - 5 pts
Creativity - 5 pts

TOTAL 15 pts

E. Evaluation

The teacher will have a 10 items identification quiz to evaluate the

learning of the students. The teacher will show a picture of an instrument and the
students will have to identify how does the instrument produce sound (e.g
vibrating of strings, Vibrating air columns, Vibrating Membranes, Vibrating
Plates). Afterwards, checking of papers will follow.

F. Assignement

The teacher will task the students to improvise their own musical
instrument using a variety of sources found in their surroundings. The instrument
shall produce sound based on one of the methods. The assignment shall be
submitted the day after tomorrow. In passing the assignment, students will have
to perform/use their instrument first to ensure that it produces sound. The output
will be graded by the following criteria:

Creativity - 10 pts
Tune - 10 pts
Construction of materials - 5 pts
Demonstration - 5 pts.
