PART D

Identity-image gap analysis

a) Are there any discrepancies in how you see yourself and how others see you?

As per the survey, my close friends have a better understanding of my qualities than the friends

which are rather distant. Since I spend most of my time with them and they have known me for

years now so they have an accurate understanding of the qualities present or absent in me.

According to the word cloud generated, considerate, honest, cheerful, athletic and friendly are

the five most visible traits seen in my behavior all of which are true to a great extent but are not

the first 5 traits that came to my mind. In my opinion I am an Introvert, lazy, ambitious,

empathetic and humble kind of a person more than anything else.

According to word cloud, creative, patience, perceptive, proactive, mature, tough and

punctual are the traits that stood out as per the survey respondents when asked about the positive

traits which I do not possess. Focused, organized and communicative are the top 3 positive

traits which I certainly do not possess is what I believe. Here I would like to reiterate that survey

responses are absolutely correct without a doubt but they are a derivative of the traits which I

lack as per the self intervention. One discrepancy is me being called “immature” which I believe

is not true, maturity is subjective to me, I selectively choose when to act mature and when not, I

am a student and apart from the mandatory academic requirements I like to live my life carefree

and disorganized. Those close to me know that it is more of a temporary characteristic acquired

owing to the student life.

b) How important is it to address these gaps? If important, what steps can you potentially

take to close the gaps?

As per the analysis, there are no major discrepancies in my brand image and brand identity. The

qualities that I associate myself with are highly fundamental in nature and showcasing those

traits leads people in my surrounding to not just observe the trait but also the outcome of those

traits and hence build a perspective focusing more on the outcome rather than the actual traits

themselves. But both my brand image and brand identity are on similar lines and convey the

same.

In my opinion my core values and the decision-making methodology can explain the above

similarity. I have always preferred making decisions as a third person to avoid any kind of bias.

This helps me understand the difference between what I as an individual want and what is

expected out of me in that situation. This also gives me a better understanding of the situation

and being a rational person, I end up doing what is right rather than what I want. Thus the top 5

traits which I associate with the most become less visible than the other traits.

In conclusion, I believe that being an introvert I have a tendency to find a group of people with

whom I can be comfortable with and slowly with time they are able to see what I really want

them to see but people outside my group have more of a distant view and understanding.

Steps that can be taken to bridge the gap is to be more proactive, be less self conscious and more

confident about my own self. Playing sports is one of the things that energizes me, makes me

procrastinate less and more confident.
