TOPIC- CLEANING STRATEGY OF

GUEST ROOM

A guest room is the most important section of a hotel. It has been


found out that the guest rooms bring about 60-70% of the total
revenue generated by the hotel. Foremost job of the Housekeeping
Department is to keep the guest rooms clean. Guest Room
Attendants or GRA are trained with certain SOP’s with which they
are to clean the room and make it spic and span. A clean room helps
in repetitive guest stays and thus is crucial for the hotel business.
A guest room might be looking like this after the guest leaves. It’s
the duty of the housekeeping department to make it perfect as new
again. `
Following SOP’s must be followed to clean an occupied room.
1) If the room is marked as DND- Leave it as it is.
2) If guest is in the room, politely knock on the door with your
knuckles and announce, “Housekeeping…”.
If guest requests housekeeping, then proceed. If no,
acknowledge their request and leave. If the guest is sleeping,
quietly withdraw from the room.
3) If guest isn’t in the room and comes back whilst cleaning the
room, ask if they can wait for few minutes until the room is
cleaned. If they say yes, then proceed with the cleaning, if
no, then collect your equipments and leave the room.
4) Keep the chamber maid’s trolley outside the room and the
door always open.
The procedure for cleaning is as follows:
A. AFTER ENTERING THE ROOM-
1) Open the curtains and open the patio door.
2) Check if any maintenance is required.
3) Keep all the cleaning machinery in the room.
4) Keep all the furniture in its place.
B. TRASH CLEANING-
1) Collect all the large sized trashes.
2) Remove all the used bathroom supplements.
3) Pick up the mugs, cups, flask and glasses and keep
them on the bathroom platform.
C. BED MAKING-
1) Check the bed and use the appropriate linen.
2) Remove the guest items from the bed and replace them
on a visible surface
3) Remove the soiled linen and put them in the soiled
linen bag.
4) Make the bed.
D. DUSTING-
1) Always start dusting from the farthest corner of the
room towards the door. In clockwise/anticlockwise
direction.
2) Sweep the whole floor and the mop it.
3) Use separate dusters according to the items.
4) Clean and sanitize the glasses, mugs, ashtray etc.
5) Replace soiled linen like towels, robes or slippers.
6) Replenish all the items like stationary, tea and coffee
kit, mini fridge items etc.
E. VACUUM THE ROOM-
1) Start vacuuming from the farthest corner and move
towards the door.
2) Vacuum under the furnitures.
F. REPORT DAMAGES TO SUPERVISES-
1) If any damage is noticed then report it to your
supervisor for maintenance.

Everything is kept in place and the overall aesthetic upkeep has


been maintained perfectly.
