CO 1 Lesson Plan

This lesson plan aims to teach students about image formation in curved mirrors through hands-on activities and demonstrations. Students will work in groups to construct ray diagrams that show the location, orientation, size, and type of images formed by concave and convex mirrors. They will then analyze their diagrams and fill out a data table. Through class discussion, the teacher will explain how the location of the object affects the characteristics of the image. Students will then answer questions to elaborate on real-world applications of curved mirrors and take a worksheet assessment to evaluate their understanding.

DEMONSTRATION LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 10

School: ARINGAY NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Subject: SCIENCE 10

Teacher: MRS. LUZVIMINDA V. DULAY Date: February 10, 2021

TOPIC/ SUBJECT MATTER Image Formation in Curved Mirrors

LEARNING COMPETENCY Predict the qualitative characteristics (orientation, type, and magnification) of
images formed by plane and curved mirrors and lenses (S10FE-11g-50)
LEARNING RESOURCES
(printed, non-printed, online Learner’s Materials, Teacher's Manual, Power point Presentation, online
sources, and from LRMDS resources, Laboratory Manual, Worksheets
portal)
STRATEGIES/ ELICIT: To introduce reflection on curved mirrors, ask the following questions:
PROCEDURE • What does your image look like on the two sides of clear spoon?
• What do you notice about your image on each of the two sides of the spoon?
• How will you compare your image from the two sides of the spoon?

ENGAGE: Show spherical mirrors and label them as concave and/or convex
mirror. Pass around the mirrors so the learners will be able to see the difference
between the two in terms of shape and images formed.
Then ask: What do you think will be the image formed in curved mirrors? You
will find out the answer in the activity.

EXPLORE: Group Work.

Perform an activity entitled “Are you L-O-S-T after Reflection? Learners will be
given set of materials and they are going to construct ray diagrams to determine
the Location, Orientation, Size and Type of image formed by curved mirrors.
(refer to the activity sheet)

Instruct the learners to use different colors of strings for incident and reflected
rays (e.g. blue for incident ray and red for reflected ray).

The output of the learners will be based on the scoring rubric below:

EXPLAIN: Each group will post their outputs and one representative will discuss
how they come up with the image using ray diagrams.

Based on the constructed ray diagrams, summarize the location and

characteristics of the images formed by curved mirrors by filling the data table.
Image
Location Orientation Size Type
(upright or (same, (real or

or

CONCAVE
A. Farther than the
center of curvature
B. At the center of
curvature
C. Between the center of
curvature and the
focal point
D. At the focal point
E. Between the focal
point and the vertex
CONVEX
F. Farther than C in front
of the mirror
G. Between F and V in
front of the mirror

Processing of data using guide questions:

How does the location of the object affect the characteristics and location
of the image formed in a concave mirror? Convex mirror?

The teacher will further discuss the qualitative characteristics of images

formed by curved mirrors.
The location of the object affects the characteristics and location of the
image in such a way that as the object comes nearer the concave mirror, its
image appears farther away from the mirrors and becomes larger and inverted.
As it comes closer to the surface of the concave mirror (between F and V), the
image appears upright and becomes virtual. For all locations of object in front of a
convex mirror, the image formed is always upright, reduced, virtual, and located
between F and V.

ELABORATE: Answer the following questions using the concepts of

characteristics of images in curved mirrors.
1. What type of mirror do dentists usually use to clearly see the images of
our teeth? Why?
2. What kind of curved mirror do you see in most of the department store?
Why do they use such kind of mirror?
3. Why do automobiles headlight use concave mirrors?

EVALUATE: Performance Assessment

Worksheet on curved mirrors. Determine the location, orientation, size, and
type of image formed in curved mirrors by constructing ray diagrams.

Scoring Guide
A. Construction of ray diagrams 3 pts
B. Location and description of the image 3 pts
C. Neatness of work 2 pts
D. Presentation of output 2 pts
Total 10 pts
EXTEND: Students will research on the mirror equation to determine the exact
location and size of the image formed in a curved mirror.
