2. Why is communication important in life?

Expected student’s response: Being able to communicate effectively is
perhaps the most important of all life skills. It is what enables us to pass
information to other people, and to understand what is said to us.
Communication skills may take a lifetime to master—if indeed anyone can
 ever claim to have mastered them.

Expected student’s response: Good communication skills build strong

friendships. It also helps in making us confident enough. Thus, students get
interested in going to school every day.

2. Has the development of the internet and social media caused a change in

Expected student’s response: Yes. The internet and social media

have drastically changed the way people all over the world interact and
communicate. . Social media networks allow us the opportunity to share
opinions with a far wider audience. Another big change that has occurred is
that there is now no filter on the way we speak.

( 12 minutes) The Discipline of Communication
Human interaction is regarded as the basis on which interpersonal
relationships, groups and teams, organizations, communities, and cultures are
constructed. Communication aims at developing knowledge about
interactional processes and communicative behavior. The discipline focuses
on contacts and bonds between people, both in private and public contexts,
and both face-to-face and mediated through various communication
technologies.

It focuses on how humans use verbal and non-verbal messages to create

meaning in various settings from two persons, groups, to mass audiences
across nations using a diverse set of networks and media. The Discipline is
especially interested in the influence of those messages in human behavior.

Goals of Communication and Why do we Communicate?

Basic Elements of Communication Process

A. SENDER – The person who intends to convey the message with the
intention of passing information
B. RECEIVER – The person who receives the message or for whom the
message is meant for. It is the receiver who tries to understand the message
in the best possible manner in achieving the desired objectives. ion and ideas
to others is known as sender or communicator
C. MESSAGE – This is the subject matter of the communication. This may be
an opinion, attitude, feelings, views, orders, or suggestions
D. CHANNEL – The person who is interested in communicating has to choose
the channel for sending the required information, ideas etc. This information is
transmitted to the receiver through certain channels which may be either
formal or informal.
E. FEEDBACK – Feedback is the process of ensuring that the receiver has
received the message and understood in the same sense as sender meant it.

other person or people they are interacting with, consider what they have said,

Use empathy-being empathetic is a great trait to have, because it means that

contributions to the conversation and know how best to help the flow of
dialogue/situation.
