WHAT I NEED TO KNOW

This module is a new learning material which will help you acquire more knowledge
about yourself and the wonders of your surroundings.
Try to explore and discover in order to learn the scientific ways of propagating trees. As you
move through the pages of this module, you will find engaging questions about plant
propagation. I encourage you to find ways to answer these questions by providing you varied
activities. They are designed for you to follow scientific procedure and will lead you in
searching for the answer to your own inquiries.
At the end of this module, you should be able to:
 propagate trees and fruit-bearing trees using scientific processes
 identifies the appropriate tools and equipment in plant propagation and their uses
 demonstrate scientific way of propagating fruit-bearing trees
 observes health and safety measures in propagating fruit-bearing trees

WHAT I KNOW
Find out how much you already know about the lesson by answering the items below.
I. Directions: Put a check mark (✔) if you are familiar or have used the following tools at
home or in school and a cross mark (X) if it is something new to you.

WHAT’S NEW
I. Directions: Fill in the blanks with the correct letters to form the word being described.
_a_c_t____ 1. the process of inducing a branch or a twig to produce roots while it is
attached to the parent plant
B___i_g 2. the union of one bud and a small piece of bark from the scion with a
rootstock
_ r _ _ _ ing 3. the joining of two separate plants like root and stem or two stems to
form a union and grow as one plant

WHAT IS IT
Do you know why planting trees and other plants is important? Primarily, these plants
are planted to enhance aesthetics and create a healthy environment. Trees are effective
barriers against noise and it also serves as a windbreaker. Fruit–bearing trees would also
help farmers earn a living.
Most of the time, we are very eager to explore how we could multiply or propagate them
using different methods scientifically but aside from knowing the different methods of
propagation, we should also learn how to use the tools and equipment in propagating trees
and fruit–bearing trees as well as the health and safety measures.
