Angles

This document provides an overview of a unit on angles for 7th grade students. It includes 5 sections: 1) corresponding angles and alternate angles, 2) angle properties, 3) solving angle problems, and 4) an end of unit review. The sections cover key concepts like parallel lines, transversals, angle congruency rules, using angle properties to prove theorems about triangle and quadrilateral sums, and applying angle facts to solve problems. Examples and exercises are provided to help students learn and practice the material.

Unit 5:

Angles

Class : G7
Semester :2
AL Madar private
school Teacher: Najiba Aouini
Content and objectives

We have 5 sections to work through and there are check up audits and
fitness tests for each section from where students will be able to work
with :

1. Corresponding angles and alternate angles .

2. Angles properties.
3. Solving angles problems .
4. End of unit review .

Unit5/G8 1.Alternate angles and corresponding angles
Section1
To be memorized :
Parallel lines: straight lines have the same distance apart
and they never meet.
Transversal line : a straight line cross 2 parallel lines

Parallel
lines

Unit5/G8 1.1Corresponding angles
Section1
1. Corresponding angles are angles in the same spot in both
lines
Line L
G GPB = PQE

A P B
Line M GPA = PQD
BPQ = EQF
Line N
D Q E
APQ = DQF
F

Corresponding pairs of angles are congruent ( having the

same size and the same shape
Unit5/G8 1.2 Alternate angles ( interior )
Section1
Alternate interior angles are formed on opposite sides of the
transversal on the inside of the lines.

Unit5/G8 1.3 Alternate angles ( exterior )
Section2
Alternate exterior angles are formed on opposite sides of the
transversal and on the outside of the lines.

Unit5/G8 Alternate angles and corresponding angles
Section1
Example 1 (course book page 52 Q4)
Angle APY is marked on the diagram. Copy and complete these sentences.
a) APY and CQY are ………………………angles.
b) APY and XQD are ………………………. angles.
c) APX and … are corresponding angles.
d) CQX and … are alternate angles

Unit5/G8 2.Angles properties
Section2
Proof 1 : angles inside a triangle always add up to 1800
we can prove it by using the properties of parallel lines .

Angle ACX (d+e) is called the external angle of

the triangle at C.
d + e = a + b. This means that:
the external angle at C is equal to the sum of the
interior angles at A and B

1. Extend BC to X and draw CY parallel to BA.

2. a = d (alternate angles) and b = e (corresponding angles)
3. c + d + e = 180 ° (angles on a straight line)
4. ⇒ c + a + b = 180 °. This is the required result

Unit5/G8 2.Angles properties
Section2
Example :course book page 55 Q 5.2 ,1)
In the triangles, calculate the values of a, b and c

Unit5/G8 2.Angles properties
Section2
Proof 2 : angles inside a Quadrilateral always add up to 3600
we can prove it by drawing a diagonal line cutting the shape into 2 traingles .

1. Draw the diagonal BD.

2. a + x + y = 180° (angle sum of a triangle)
3. w + z + c = 180° (angle sum of a triangle)
4. a + x + y + w + z + c = 360 °
5. a + (x + w) + (y + z) + c = 360 °

Unit5/G8 3. solving Angles problems
Section3
Here are some of the facts you could use :
a) The sum of the angles on a straight line is 180 °.
b) The sum of the angles round a point is 360 °.
c) Vertically opposite angles are equal.
d) Corresponding angles are equal.
e) Alternate angles are equal.
f) The angle sum of a triangle is 180 °.
g) The exterior angle of a triangle is the sum of the two opposite interior angles.
h) The angle sum of a quadrilateral is 360 °.
