Unit19 RESULTS INTERPRETATION AND DISCUSSION

This document provides an overview of a 7th grade math unit on interpreting and discussing results. The unit covers drawing and interpreting pictograms, bar charts, bar line graphs, frequency diagrams, and pie charts. It also covers drawing conclusions based on graph shapes and statistics. The document lists the unit objectives and provides examples for each type of graph. It describes how to interpret, draw, and ensure accuracy for each graph type. It also provides steps for comparing two sets of data and drawing conclusions. The unit aims to help students draw logical conclusions and explain their methods, results, and conclusions.

Unit19:Interpreting and discussing

results

Class : grade 7
School : Al Madar private school .
Academic year : 2022-2023
Teacher : Ms.Najiba Aouini
Content :
1. Objectives.
2. Introduction
3. Interpreting and drawing pictograms
4. Bar charts.
5. Bar line graphs.
6. Frequency diagrams.
7. Pie chart .
8. Drawing conclusions
9. Ending up and end of unit review .
1.Objectives:

At the end of this unit students will be able to :

1. Draw and interpret: pictograms, bar charts, bar line
graphs , frequency diagrams and pie charts.
2. Draw conclusions based on the shape of graphs
and simple statistics.
3. Work logically and draw simple conclusions.
4. Record and explain methods results and conclusion.
1. Introduction
Example for discussion: booking a holiday
3.Pictograms
 In a pictogram ,we use pictures to represent data.(example page 183 q1)
4.Bar charts
 We use bars to show data. When you draw a bar chart you must make sure
that:
• the bars are all the same width and the gap between bars is always the
same .
• each bar has a label underneath it
• the bar chart has a title and the axes are labelled
• you use a sensible scale on the vertical axis.
Example :page 183 Q 2
5.Bar line graphs
 Bar –line graph is similar to a bar chart, but with thick lines instead of bars
(example page 183 Q3)
6. Frequency diagrams.
 A frequency diagram is any diagram that shows frequencies .it could be a
bar chart or a bar line graph .( example page 184 Q4)
7. Interpreting and drawing Pie chart
 A pie chart is drawn as a circle divided into sections called sectors, showing
the fraction or proportion of a data but not the actual numbers.
 The angles at the centres of all the sectors add up to 360°.
 When you draw a pie chart you must make sure that you label each sector
and draw the angles accurately.
First : total number of people asked = 40
Second : number of degree per type = 360 ÷40 = 9
Third : total number of degree for each sector by multiplying each frequency by 9.
Degree of Soul = 9× 5 =45 degree
Degree of classical=9 × 20 =180 degree
Degree of Pop= 9× 8=72 degree
Degree of other = 9 × 7 = 63 degree
Fourth : checking = all sectors degree must be equal to 360 degree .
(45+180+72+63 ) =360 degree
8.Drawing conclusions
 to compare two sets of data, follow these steps:
o Look at the overall total number of items in each graph or chart and see if
there is a big difference in the totals.
o Compare the shapes of the graphs or charts and comment on how they
are different. ( example page 188 cb)
9. End of unit review
