SOUL MAKING
Soulmaking is a step towards a deeper understanding of how the world is
perceived and how his or her own personality is seen, as Dr. Norman
Narciso, one of the leading Filipino thought leaders in the art world,
profoundly explains: "Soulmaking is an alternate place to know oneself and
to look at the depths and meaning of what we do in our daily lives." In the
creation of art, soul making plays a significant role; it is a way of telling
stories, turning fleeting moments into images, symbols that resonate with
people, comprehending cultures, and evoking tolerance, peace, and
imagination.

In the process of soulmaking, the question of "who are you" acts as a

reference point. Consciousness is the first step in self-knowledge. Realizing
and embracing one's truth, history, and understanding of existence is
important to begin the process. With this newly discovered understanding,
art, which is truly the very foundation of soul-making, can now be used. As
a result, the way something is seen rather than its production is what is
primarily considered. The religious perspective on the soul is only one
aspect of soulmaking. The term "soul" describes a person's uniqueness,
which is reflected in his or her behavior. Since art is a highly regarded and
symbolic form of human expression, people frequently use various artistic
mediums to satisfy their need for communication and self-expression.
Soulmaking is a powerful aid to the human yearning to fulfill one's very
existence.

A person's work is given meaning through the creation of art. The process
of producing such expressions holds the key to one's ability to develop
personally and culturally because all art is an expression of one's
perceptions, sentiments, emotions, and reality. Every human experience is
drawn upon in soulmaking in order to create a force that can better both
the artist and those around him or her. Knowing the difficulties that each

journey brings and how each person has a different perspective on how life
unfolds as it affects them are all important life lessons. Everyone is able to
go through the soulmaking process. It is not restricted to those who are
"clearly artistic," as everyone is creative in their own right. It simply requires
losing yourself in the practice of separating yourself from yourself and
taking on a fresh perspective on the world.

The category of "crafting images" refers to the creation of visual

representations of images using a variety of tools and techniques. This
procedure can be carried out using any artistic medium, including
sketching, drawing, and sculpture. This can also be achieved by dancing,
poetry (including black-out poetry), playing an instrument, and even
filmmaking. Writing down one's own personal input, life values, intense
emotions, ideas, ideals, and even high and negative emotions counts as
the act of story creation. When one craft narrative is offered, he or she
could be depicted in many ways, just like when creating graphics. Stunning
images, soothing music, and potent phrases can all be used to tell stories.
The soul is accompanied by a vessel so that the soul will not disappear.
Crafting Instruments - Crafting instruments are viewed as "a bridge to the
unknown" since they produce sounds that go beyond our thoughts,
emotions, and experiences. These musical instruments can create a
balanced mind and a soul that is sustained in harmony.

In order for people to understand language and infer meaning from words,
it is crucial to recall semantics and grammatical rules. In addition, it is well
recognized that interpretation and evaluation of either spoken or written
works depend on meaning and symbolism. For people to understand a
piece of art, they would need to grasp the visual components on which it
was based, especially the principles of design. It's crucial to keep in mind
that the observer must comprehend the style, shape, and medium of the
work to some extent. Without such comprehension, it would be impossible
to enjoy the visual arts in all of their glory.

IMPROVISATION
A work of art must be spontaneous and unplanned in order to be
considered improvised. Improvisation occurs when the artists make quick
decisions without adhering to a blueprint. For instance, when actors adhere
to a pre-written script, improvisation is not possible because the actors'
lines were pre-written.

It's crucial to remember that even impromptu art typically involves some
level of forethought beforehand. It's quite impossible to imagine a
completely impromptu piece without any predetermined elements. There
is still a static, underpinning aspect that the improvising artist depends on,
whether it be the "overall circumstance" called for in an improv sketch or
the scale over which a jazz pianist plays the piano. When you apply the
idea of improvisation to quilting, this will become crucial. You don't have to
begin with a completely blank slate; you can make a rough plan and then
improvise from there.

Improvisation can be defined as acting spontaneously without prior

forethought. A choice is made to take action on something that wasn't
necessarily expected. In the current environment, improvisation has grown
to be a significant component of the arts. Some might argue that it was a
reaction to the formality of the arts during the 20th century. To rekindle
people's creative spirits in the arts, there is a desire for emancipation from
routine.

For some artists, adding spontaneity and improvisation contributes to the

whole piece of art. The improvised modifications' unpredictable nature
gives the artwork a special aspect that gives it its individuality and
distinctiveness. Some artists agree with the idea of giving possibilities a
chance when creating the work. Artists could want to capture the splendor

of a meteor shower or the nighttime darkness brought on by an
approaching storm. Their reliance on opportunity may not always provide
the desired outcome because they do not necessarily have complete
control over natural events. When performers are encouraged to
improvise, the results are frequently quite different. Modern patchwork is a
good place to apply improvisation. Allow your senses and your
imagination to lead you to surprising discoveries. Defy the impulse to
conform to tried-and-true patterns or traditional stylings. Select materials
that contrast or sparkle. Be prepared for unexpected inspiration to strike,
and when it does, act on it without hesitation. You'll probably produce a
bizarre final product that differs from anything you've ever created. This will
enable you to push the boundaries of your quilting. In the history of art,
improvisation has been significant. Numerous creative people have found
that when given the freedom to create without restrictions, they produce
their greatest work. If you try spontaneous quilting, you might discover that
you, too, function best with lots of creative freedom.

Improvisation is common in painting, which is frequently the first medium

we think of when we think of "art". While improvisation has undoubtedly
been a part of painting for thousands of years, it became entirely
unrestricted in the 20th century. Wassily Kandinsky is famous for his
"Improvisation" paintings, which have vivid colors that hazily combine to
form identifiable shapes. Given how important improvisation has proven to
be in the arts, it should come as no surprise that you may apply the forces
of free-form artistic creativity to your quilting projects. Your creative
energies will be released if you incorporate some improvisation into your
quilting routines. You can end up making shapes and patterns you never
would have thought of. Additionally, you'll give yourself permission to
develop into a truer expression of your quilted self.

APPROPRIATION

Art theft has been a frequent occurrence throughout history. An apprentice

painter used to be allowed to practice his craft by copying his master's
paintings in the past. It appears as though the apprentice is seeking to use
his individual application of techniques to study what he is already more
familiar with. However, a few people have gone too far by believing that he
created the precise work of art that was credited to another artist. This
might cause issues, especially with authorship. The problem arises when
the appropriating artist takes small components from other works and
adds them to his own creations. Additionally, the voices and perspectives
of the other artists are lost when appropriation artists shirk their obligation
to include the specifics of other works into their own work under the guise
of the appropriation artist.

The act of employing preexisting pieces in a new work by borrowing from

or reusing them is known as appropriation. Artists who use post-modern
appropriation techniques, like Barbara Kruger, are adamant about
rejecting the idea of "originality." They contend that by using pre-existing
imagery or imaging-related components, they are re-contextualizing or
appropriateing the original imagery and enabling the spectator to
renegotiate the original's meaning in a new, more appropriate, or more up-
to-date context.

Since issues of plagiarism or fraud might occasionally occur, the intentions

of appropriation artists are frequently questioned. Some claim that the
intention of the appropriators was to make the audience aware of the
duplicated photos. The artist hopes that the visitors will view the original
piece from a different angle.

PAGE 05 - APPROPRIATION
The discussion of appropriation in modern art centers on the ideas of
originality and authorship. To contextualize the works we will examine later
in this article, we will go into great detail about these. It is also crucial to
take into account the work of the artists involved in appropriation in terms
of their intentions, justifications, and the impact of their work in order to
fully assess the notion. A person who creates or gives birth to a piece of
work is referred to as an author. Responsibility for what an author creates is
therefore determined by their authorship. The act of appropriation is
frequently seen as supporting the notion that authorship in the arts is a
dated or outdated idea.

The distinction between the art of appropriation and counterfeit seems to

be very hazy. Pastiches, which are works that borrow details from an
existing work and merge them into a new one, and blatant copies of old
works are the two categories into which forgery historically fell. However,
counterfeit could take the form of interpreting what a current artist might
create by making a forecast. Studying the artist's methods, visual
language, and focal points in both his earlier and more recent works will
help you achieve this. Since issues with plagiarism or falsification
frequently occur, the intentions of the appropriation artists are
occasionally questioned. Some have claimed that the appropriation was
done with the intention of making the audience recall the images they
copied. The artist hopes that the viewers will see a fresh perspective on the
original piece.
