Physics IA

This physics investigation examines how the horizontal distance traveled by a projectile depends on the opening angle. The student will study two-dimensional projectile motion accounting for factors like air resistance, with the goal of deepening their understanding of projectile kinematics beyond the limitations of a one-dimensional model. The initial part of the investigation considers projectile motion in a vacuum to establish a baseline free of air resistance effects.

Investigating how the horizontal distance travelled by a

projectile depends on opening angle.

Introduction

The study of projectile motion involves examining the movement of an object in the
air that is influenced by gravity. The author's interest in this topic arose from their
enjoyment of the subject of kinematics in physics class, but they realised the
limitations of one-dimensional motion without considering factors such as air
resistance. The purpose of this investigation is to gain a deeper understanding of
two-dimensional motion in air, taking into account the effects of air resistance.
