Activity Sheet No. 1.3

TRADITIONAL ASSESSMENTS

Concept Notes:

Traditional assessments refer to conventional methods of testing, usually standardized and use
pen and paper with multiple-choice, true or false or matching type test items.

Purpose: to evaluate if the students have learned the content; to determine whether or not the
students are successful in acquiring knowledge; to ascribe a grade for them; to rank and compare
them against standards or other learners

Instructions:

1. The students are required to view the YouTube video about the strengths of traditional
assessment with the link: https://youtu.be/zI0Wk7Hok7Q
2. The students are required to conduct research activity on the most widely used traditional
assessment tools and write what they know about the different types of traditional
assessment.

Types of Traditional Assessments What I know . . .

1. True or False Tests In a traditional true/false question, students
are asked to judge whether a factual
statement is either true or false. True/false
questions are best suited to assessing
surface level knowledge, but can be crafted
to assess higher order thinking
2. Multiple Choice Tests A multiple-choice item consists of a stem
and a number of possible alternative
responses. The stem's function is to state
the problem presented by the item. The
alternatives consist of the correct answer
and several distractors, usually four or five
alternatives
3. Matching Type Tests The matching type test item format provides
a way for learners to connect a word,
sentence or phrase in one column to a
corresponding word, sentence or phrase in a
second column. The items in the first column
are called premises and the answers in the
second column are the responses.
4. Fill-in the Blank Tests Fill-in-the-blank items are assessment
questions in which test takers must hand
enter a response, rather than select from a
list of predetermined answer choices.
5. Essays An Essay is an assessment question that
requires an answer in a sentence,
paragraph, or short composition. Essay
assessments are usually classified as
subjective assessments as there are
normally a variety of responses.

3. The students are required to present a sample of the different types of traditional
assessments. You can take a screenshot or apply a snipping tool to crop the sample types
of traditional assessment and place them in the box in a creative way.
