Principle of working
1
The conductivity of soil changes with its moisture content, so by measuring the
conductivity, the moisture level can be determined.
One common type of moisture monitoring system uses a probe with two or more
electrodes that are inserted into the soil. The probe sends an electrical current through the
soil between the electrodes, and the resistance of the soil to that current is measured. The
resistance is inversely proportional to the moisture content of the soil, so the lower the
resistance, the higher the moisture level. The resistance measurement is then converted
into a moisture level reading and displayed on a digital display or sent to a computer for
further analysis.
