EVERY DAY, billions of tons of goods and materials pour through border crossings, ports, and rail yards with an ever-present potential for danger. Dense loads can shelter virtually anything: weapons of mass destruction, conventional weapons, stolen and undervalued goods, drugs, or stowaways. The possibilities are endless, and the consequences of failing to identify hidden threat
substances can be disastrous. Cargo inspection is the rst and last line of defense against terrorism, contraband trafcking, and theft at entry points around the globe. With innovative screening solutions designed to match the energy, sophistication, and boundless imagination of the criminal mind, L-3 Security and Detection Systems provide critical safeguards for every point of entry: air, land,
inland waterways, and seaports. Blending landmark image capture and processing technology with versatile platforms that span the spectrum of physical requirements, L-3 presents an extraordinary line of cargo X-ray systems to match the complex demands of border, port, rail, and aviation security.

From break-bulk cargo to fully loaded long-haul trucks, L-3 cargo screening systems get the job done fast. L-3 congures xed-site, relocatable gantry, mobile, and pallet X-ray systems in a broad range of sizes, throughput capacities, and options.
CX-3800G
High-energy X-ray Gantry System
From fully loaded 18-wheelers to intermodal shipping and air cargo containers, the CX-3800G scans large loads with ease and precision. While vehicles/containers remain stationary, the X-ray source and detectors pass over the targeted object, enabling precise control of the scan speed to assure consistent, distortion-free images. The CX-3800G with 3.8MeV X-ray source can penetrate up to 270mm (10") of steel, scan 25 trucks or containers per hour, and store more than 10,000 scanned images in various media formats. Designed to withstand harsh environmental conditions, the CX-3800G performs flawlessly in desert heat, extreme cold, wind, and precipitation. The CX-3800G does all that and more in the most compact footprint available.
CX-9000F
High-energy X-ray System
L-3 developed the CX-9000F in response to cargos biggest challengethe need to screen high volumes of large, densely packed shipping containers. With 9.0 MeV of penetrating power, the CX-9000F images through 350mm (13") of steel and boasts an unprecedented throughput rate of up to 50 forty-foot (12.2m) containers per hour. It owes its remarkable capacity to a series of moving platforms that enable the system to process up to six container trucks simultaneously, through a precisioncontrolled sequence of parallel activities. The amazing efficiency of the CX-9000F yields the highest throughput rate in the industry and establishes L-3 as the leader in cargo scanning technology.
CX-6000R
Rail Cargo Scanner
The CX-6000R scans dense rail cargo with ease. Its powerful 6.0MeV X-ray source, capable of penetrating 300mm (12") of steel, can image the entire contents of a fully loaded train to stop threats in their tracks. A throughput champion, the CX-6000R scans boxcars, tankers, double-stacked cars, and automobile carriers moving at speeds up to 10 MPH (16.1 KPH). Built to endure the extremes of heat and cold, precipitation, and wind in excess of 125 MPH (201.2 KPH), the CX-6000R with DeepScan takes the lead in image quality, reliability, and ease of use for rail applications.
CX-3800M
High-energy X-ray Mobile System
The self-contained CX-3800M with DeepScan represents the ultimate in road-ready cargo screening. Capable of penetrating more than 270mm (10") of steel, the versatile CX-3800M is remarkably easy to deploy, operate, and maintain, and fully operable in less than 20 minutes. Scans up to 20 vehicles an hour or a row of large cargo containers in a single pass. Job done, the CX-3800M is just as easily packed up, secured, and made ready for its next assignment. The CX-3800M meets U.S. and international radiation and highway safety standards with features that include: automatic collision-avoidance; closed-circuit TV cameras to capture views from critical vantage points; and automatic safety interlocks to prevent X-ray use until all necessary safety preparations have been made. Operators stay safe and comfortable in the spacious, air-conditioned, soundproof operator room.
Autovan CX-160V
The rugged, compact Autovan CX-160V houses a powerful, high-speed PX-231 X-ray System, ready for fast deployment to remote locations or to help handle cargo overflow and relieve bottlenecks during peak shipping periods. Built to provide years of reliable use under the toughest road conditions, the diesel-powered Autovan generates ample technical and utility power to operate all standard on-board equipment, including air conditioning. The PX-231 X-ray scanner features a 1000 mm wide by 800 mm high (39.4" x 31.5") aperture, ideal for screening large boxes and break-bulk cargo at airports, customs, force protection facilities, dockyards, and remote warehouses. Mounted and positioned for proper weight distribution to assure excellent vehicle handling, the PX-231 is easily accessed for operation and servicing.
PX-231 Towcart
The PX-231 Towcart integrates the PX-231 X-ray System as explained in the Autovan CX-160V descriptionwith a heavy-duty, custom-designed trailer to bring grab-and-tow mobile X-ray screening capability wherever it is needed. Easily towed by a large car or four-wheel-drive vehicle, the trailer can be modified for use anywhere in the world. A petrol generator provides power to the X-ray system for use even in the most remote locations.
PX-160P
With a tunnel opening 1.5m wide x 1.65m high (59" wide by 65" high) and a two-speed conveyor with 6,600lb (3000kg) capacity, the PX-160P is a veritable workhorse for inspecting large boxed, crated, or palletized cargo. Its160kVp X-ray, capable of penetrating more than 27 mm (1") of steel, produces best-in-class images and includes many of the imaging features and conveniences found on L-3s larger, more advanced systems.
CX-450P
The dual-energy CX-450P excels at scanning oversized and uniquely shaped items, including crates, pallets, aircraft containers, tugs, dollies, and small vehicles. The 450kVp panoramic X-ray source, housed in a steel-andlead-shielded construction, detects two levels of X-ray energy, capable of penetrating 90mm (3.5") of steel, to produce the industrys most precise material discrimination abilities. The CX-450P is also available with dual view, two X-ray sources that scan contents both horizontally and vertically. The two views are 90 relative to one another, providing additional insight into suspicious cargo beyond that of a single view.
