INTRODUCTION

OJT, or on-the-job training, is a crucial area of human resource management. It

supports both the successful growth of the organization and the individual's professional

development. One type of training offered at the workplace is on-the-job training.

Employees become accustomed to the working atmosphere they will be a part of during

the training. Additionally, workers receive practical training in using various pieces of

machinery, tools, materials, etc. Taking on obstacles that come up while doing the work is

a part of on-the-job training. An experienced worker or a manager plays the part of the

mentor, imparting information and company-specific skills to the new hire through written

or verbal instructions and demonstrations. Additionally, workers receive practical training

in using various pieces of machinery, tools, materials, etc. Taking on obstacles that come

up while doing the work is a part of on-the-job training. An experienced worker or a

manager plays the part of the mentor, imparting information and company-specific skills

to the new hire through written or verbal instructions and demonstrations. Its efficacy is

based on the use of currently available office tools, machines, documents, and equipment
2

as well as the expertise of professionals working in this field. The process of adjusting to a

new workplace is made simpler by on-the-job training because it is simple to set up and

administer. For practical work, on-the-job training is frequently utilized. It is affordable

and doesn't call for specialized tools typically used for a certain task. The company is

required to keep participants on as regular employees when the training has been

satisfactorily completed. (Barron, et al. 1997)

In order for the students to prepare for the professional world, they are needed to

be trained in a real working environment. It may be very helpful to the students to

experience the hardships of the work force and find a way to cope and solve the existing

problems on the working environment.

OJT also helps in enhancing the abilities of the students and gain new knowledge

on their field of expertise. It is a great stepping stone for students in reaching their desired

career in the future.

The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology students in Cavite State

University - Silang Campus undergo four hundred eighty-six (486) hours of on-the-job

training (OJT). The trainee accomplished his training at the Teacher Education Department

in Cavite State University – Silang Campus at Barangay Biga 1, Silang Cavite. He was

asked to report from Monday to Thursday at 7 o’clock in the morning until 6 o’clock in the

evening.

Indang Intermediate School with the American Thomasites as the first teachers. Several

transformations in the name of the school took place; Indang Farm School in 1918, Indang

Rural High School in 1927, and Don Severino National Agriculture School in 1958. In

1964, the school was converted into a State College by virtue of Republic Act 3917 and

became known as Don Severino Agricultural College (DSAC).

On January 22, 1998, by virtue of Republic Act No.8468, DSAC was converted

into Cavite State University. In 2001, Cavite College of Fisheries (CACOF) in Naic,

into the University by virtue of CHED Memo No. 27 s. 2000. Since then, additional

campuses in the province were established through memoranda of agreement with the

LGUs. At present, CvSU has 11 campuses in the province. The main campus,

approximately 70 hectares in land area and named Don Severino delas Alas Campus, is in

Indang, Cavite.

CvSU is mandated “to provide excellent, equitable and relevant educational

opportunities in the arts, sciences, and technology through quality instruction, and

for Coffee and Urban Agriculture. It also hosts the Southern Tagalog Agriculture Research

and Development Consortium (STARDEC), the Affiliated Renewable Energy Center for

Region IV-A, and the Regional ICT Center for Region IV-A.

Documents needed by the staff should be recorded in logbooks that have been signed by

the recipients of the documents before releasing.

Employees should make sure that all of the electrical equipment is unplugged from

the outlets and switched off before leaving the premises. Important issues addressed in the

department must be kept inside the room. The department head will discipline the

making sure that professors are hired and fired in compliance with university standards,

and providing training to all levels of faculty staff.

Observations

On his first day as a trainee in the DIT and TED, he saw the staff members' orderly

work. The trainee liked how friendly and approachable everyone was. He is also at ease

with his job, whether it is at TED or DIT.

He observed how neat and orderly the DIT and TED were. The personnel and

trainees regularly clean the workstations before starting the assigned responsibilities. The

department has equipment to help the employees with their jobs. A strength of the team is

the communication and teamwork among the employees, which raises the caliber of their

job. They frequently share their thoughts on how the work of each team could be enhanced.

He liked his teachers' willingness to teach him and their regard for them, as well as their

interest in his on-the-job training inside their division. He felt lucky to have received their

instruction.

The trainee quickly gets used to his tasks during his OJT. At first, the trainee feels

anxious because he was surrounded with people he’s not familiar with. But as time

progresses, he started to gain more confidence on his work environment.

Insights

The trainee expected to encounter numerous challenges and gain a wide range of

experiences. He became unconfident and intimidated at work. He felt unqualified to handle

the task they gave him. However, as time passes, OJT has grown in importance for him as

he has come to understand that becoming a trainee might be the first step in assisting him

in achieving his objectives.

14

The trainee's self-confidence must develop if they are to get along with their

coworkers. He needs to become more adept at speaking with people if he is to learn more

about his chosen field. The trainee must also increase his computer literacy. All in all, the

trainee was grateful to his experience working at TED and IT department in Cavite State

University – Silang Campus.

15

SUMMARY

The trainee completed 486 hours of on-the-job training (OJT) at the Cavite State

University Silang Campus in Silang, Cavite, and had a positive experience. He developed

his independence and problem-solving skills.

His superior who handled him was Mrs. Rosemarie N. Pragacha. He was oriented

to the department's policy. The trainee did checking of test papers, PC assembly, encode

accreditation, assist the teachers and do an inventory report. He encoded information

needed by the department.

More duties that are relevant to their trainees' fields must be provided by Cavite

State University Silang Campus. To help the trainees advance, they ought to be given

difficult work. For those taking computer courses, Cavite State University-Silang Campus

could recommend TED and DIT as one of the OJT centers.
