Line Harmonics Filter (LHF) - Input Options - SINAMICS G130
The Line Harmonics Filter reduces the low-frequency supply line harmonics of the 6-pulse rectifier circuits to the significantly
lower level of 12-pulse rectifier circuits. It is supplied as an independent component in a robust housing in IP21 degree of
protection with natural convection cooling. The device must be installed between the customer's low voltage distributor and the
SINAMICS converter. The voltage activation and the protection must be provided in the customer's low voltage switchgear
system.
Line Harmonics Filters consist essentially of harmonic absorbers that reduce the amplitude of the 5th and 7th harmonic currents.
The following figure shows for a typical case, the harmonic spectrum with and without filter and the real spectrum of a 12-pulse
infeed.

The two following chronological curves show the curve form of the supply line current influenced by Line Harmonics Filters and as
comparison the unfiltered current of a 6-pulse uncontrolled converter input circuit.
The supply line current accepted by the Line Harmonics Filter approximates the sinusoidal form very closely. Compared with 6-
pulse circuits, the distortion factor of the current THD(I) reduces from typically 40% to typically <10% with LHF.
Advantages of the Line Harmonics Filter compared with a conventional 12-pulse infeed:
No transformer with two secondary windings offset by 30° required.
The converter is more compact than usual 12-pulse devices because no second rectifier is required.
Uncomplicated upgrading for the case that a converter produces excessive harmonic effects on-site.
A smaller cross-section for the power cable between the low-voltage distributor or transformer and the Line Harmonics
Filter is possible because the significantly lower harmonic component means that the current effective value is approx. 10%
smaller for the same active power.
Lower losses in the transformer because of the lower current effective value.
Configuration notes:
A line (commutating) reactor with 2% u is required for the use of the Line Harmonics Filter.
K
The Line Harmonics Filter may be selected only maximum two power levels higher than the converter, i.e. Line Harmonics
Filters can be used for converter power above 160 kW.

Each converter must have its own Line Harmonics Filter. One Line Harmonics Filter for more than one converter is not
permitted.
If the preloading of the supply system with voltage harmonics from other consumers exceeds the value of THD(U) >10% in
accordance with EN 61000-2-4, class 3, or other compensation systems are operated on the same infeed busbars, please
contact the technical consulting department or the product management.
The Line Harmonics Filter must be protected at the plant.
