Xorcom Rapid Recovery™ User Guide

The Xorcom Rapid Recovery (XRR) is a unique accessory that can back up the Xorcom XR1000,
XR2000 and XR3000 IP-PBX on a USB Disk-on-Key (DOK). It enables simple, safe and speedy
recovery of Xorcom’s IP-PBX solutions, including configuration files, voice prompts and even
voice mail.1

By default, logs, voicemail and call recording files are not backed up, but can be marked for inclusion in the
backup, if desired. For more information about customizing the backup, contact [email protected].

Instructions
1. Connect a monitor and keyboard to the IP-PBX.
2. Power on the IP-PBX while pressing the F2 key. The BIOS setup screen will appear.
3. From BIOS setup choose:
a. Legacy USB support: EnableUSB boot: Enable
b. Boot USB Devices First: Enable
4. Connect the XRR to the USB port of your IP-PBX.
5. Boot the IP-PBX. The system will boot from the XRR disk-on-key
6. The first option screen (Figure 1) appears:

Choose the first option or just wait (after 5 seconds the system will start to load the XRR
software).
7. The second menu (Figure 2) appears:

8. To create the backup:

a. Choose the “Backup” menu option.


b. Define a descriptive name for the backup file:

c. Choose the target for the backup2.


d. Backup your system (depending on the configuration you have selected, the backup will
consume about 0.5 GB and will take a few minutes).
9. To restore:
a. Choose the “Restore” menu option.
b. Choose the appropriate backup file.

c. Restore your system.


10. After backup or restore, go back to BIOS setup and restore the original settings:
a. Legacy USB support: Disable
b. USB boot: Disable
c. Boot USB Devices First: Disable

Once you have a backup on your XRR, you can prepare the Xorcom Rapid Live Rescue ™ (RLR) rescue image
that will let you run your PBX without a hard disk drive. See the “Notes” section at the end of this document for
instructions.

Notes
It is possible to keep several IP-PBX backups on the same DOK. Each backup is saved as a
separate folder under the DOK 'backup' folder. You can delete the folder if you don't need a
particular backup anymore.

Restoring the Image with Xorcom Rapid Live Rescue (RLR)


To prepare your RLR, use a 4 GB DOK to restore the image, as follows:
1. Boot the IP-PBX from the XRR (as described above).
2. Connect another disk-on-key to another USB connector.
3. Choose the “Restore” menu option.
4. Choose the appropriate backup.
5. A list of available storage devices will be displayed. Select the USB disk-on-key device where
you want to create the Xorcom Rapid Live Rescue™ from this list.
