PROJECT PROPOSAL
DRRM Capacity Building for Teachers
I. PROJECT DESCRIPTION
II. RATIONALE
Disasters, natural or human-induced hit our place every now and then. This usually
results in tremendous destruction both to life and property. The occurrence of disasters has
become a major factor affecting our economic development and social stability.
The Enriqueta Montilla de Esteban Memorial High School is a school in the Division of
Negros Occidental specifically in Esteban Subd., Reigo St., Brgy. Zone 2, Pulupandan. The
school is situated in a very low-lying area that is also a flood-prone area.
The school is prone to various hazards such as flooding, typhoon, storm surge, health
threat (Schistosomiasis), road traffic accident (RTA), earthquake and fire. If no preparation will
be made, in the event that such eventualities occur, then, lives and properties are at stake.
With the foregoing, there is really a need to have a Capacity Building which will be
responsible for the dissemination of information and giving of updates on various hazards that
are prone to happen in the school. Moreover, SDRRMC/O will serve as repository of all medical
kits, supplies and equipment which can be accessed easily in order to give immediate response
to emergencies.
IlI. OBJECTIVES
1. To tackle not only classroom problems but also let teachers aware of the emerging
trends and updates on the School Disaster Risk Reduction & Management;
2. To identify the school's potential hazards and the disaster awareness, preparedness
and involvement in capacity-building initiatives of the school community in Enriqueta
Montilla de Esteban Memorial High School.
