learning in a variety of ways.

What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea? The student’s learning goal should
be to name similarities and differences of the basic needs of plants and animals.
Students should be able to create a presentation on their own to share this
information.

How will this lesson be implemented? Check all that apply.

X Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.

X Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of
learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.

☐ Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning
and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom
blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.

Lesson idea implementation: This presentation will be demonstrated as a whole

group. They be able to share after the book is shared, if they have any plants or
animals at home and have, they noticed their basic needs? Students will be
asked “What will happen to plant or animal if they do not have their basic
necessities?” I will open the discussion by saying why plants or animals need
these necessities. For example, animals need water because they can
dehydrate. I will continue by students drawing pictures of a healthy plant or
animals vs a non-healthy plant or animal that is missing their basic needs, they
can add their visuals to their presentation.

Managing engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that gets students
actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? This BPT allows students to be able
to read and even have the story read out loud to them. It will be engaging
because the audio and the visuals will attract their attention. The engagement
will also show in the implementation where they get to draw a visual of their
own to demonstrate a plant or animal missing their necessities.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): This BPT will support all students because all
will be able to view the digital story, I for those who struggle reading can use
the audio for help. It also consists of subtitles to support the students who are
ESOL. Creating presentations of their own will show collaboration with peers
because they will work in groups. Also creating presentations can allow them to
go anywhere and they are able to share with friends or family members.

Reflecting on enhanced learning: After designing this lesson, I feel like the activities
will impact my students because it will give them the basic ideas on what plants
and animals need in order to survive. I look forward the most to seeing students
reacting to the digital story that I created. I look forward to seeing their
presentations as well. It will show me what students have learned and what
stood out to them the most.
