PART 1. EVALUATE
1. What is social institution?
Answer
A social institution is defined as a collection of individuals banded together in pursuit of a common purpose.
Its common purposes include granting its members certain rights and privileges. Members of a social
institution also possess certain delineated duties, responsibilities and liabilities. As a group, the people
making up a social institution share common objectives and goals. Those in a social institution also share
social norms. There are many types of social institutions within society. While a general definition of social
institutions includes churches and hospitals, the sociological definition revolves around five primary
institutions. These include religion, education and family. Also, government and economy are social
institutions. Generally speaking, the term “institution” can have many different definitions, depending on
the lens that one is understanding it from. It typically describes a collective of people or ideas.

2. What are the basic social institutions?

Answer
Religion. A wide array of different types of social institutions exist. Religious organizations represent a prime
example of social institutions. In the case of these types of social institutions, people get together in a
shared belief and reverence for a supernatural power, for an entity beyond themselves.
Schools. Schools of all types, from primary schools to institutions of higher education, represent another
form of social institution. Schools exist for the common purpose of the instruction of others, such as to
teach skills and share knowledge among educators and students or pupils.
Family. The general definition of social institutions also includes an extended family. In its basic or essential
terms, an extended family is a collection of nuclear families. These nuclear families band together as a group
or social institution because of a shared common ancestry. The nuclear families in and of themselves also
constitute social institutions. Indeed, any household group, whether related by blood, is considered a social
institution. This definition relates to one of the five sociological definitions of social institution, which
involves kinship.
Government and Economy The role of government and economy as a social institution is that it directs and
regulates people’s goods and services. Also, it is the basis of power. Sociologists believe that unless these
systems are in place, that society would no longer function.

3. What is family mean?

Answer
In human society, family (from Latin: familia) is a group of people related either by consanguinity (by

recognized birth) or affinity (by marriage or other relationship). The purpose of the family is to maintain the
well-being of its members and of society. Ideally, families offer predictability, structure, and safety as
members mature and learn to participate in the community. In most human societies, the family is the
primary locus of attachment, nurturance, and socialization. Anthropologists classify most family
organizations as matrifocal (a mother and her children), patrifocal (a father and his children), conjugal (a
wife, her husband, and children, also called the nuclear family), avuncular (a man, his sister, and her
children), or extended (in addition to parents and children, may include grandparents, aunts, uncles, or
cousins). The field of genealogy aims to trace family lineages through history. The family is also an important
economic unit studied in family economics. The word "families" can be used metaphorically to create more
inclusive categories such as community, nationhood, and global village.

4. What are the forms of government?

Answer
Governments with Aristarchy attributes are traditionally ruled by the “best” people. Aristocracy refers to
the rule by elite citizens; a system of governance in which a person who rules in an aristocracy is an
aristocrat. It has come to mean rule by “the aristocracy” who are people of noble birth. A meritocracy refers
to rule by the meritorious; a system of governance where groups are selected on the basis of people’s
ability, knowledge in a given area, and contributions to society. Finally, a technocracy refers to rule by the
educated; a system of governance where people who are skilled or proficient govern in their respective
areas of expertise in technology would be in control of all decision making. Doctors, engineers, scientists,
professionals and technologists who have knowledge, expertise, or skills, would compose the governing
body, instead of politicians, businessmen, and economists. Governments with autocratic attributes are ruled
by one person who has all the power over the people in a country. The Roman Republic made Dictators to
lead during times of war. In modern times, an Autocrat’s rule is not stopped by any rules of law,
constitutions, or other social and political institutions. After World War II, many governments in Latin
America, Asia, and Africa were ruled by autocratic governments.

5. Why do basic institutions arise and persist?

Answer
A social institution is a complex, integrated set of social norms organized around the preservation of a basic
societal value. Obviously, the sociologist does not define institutions in the same way, as does the person on
the street. Laypersons are likely to use the term "institution" very loosely, for churches, hospitals, jails, and
many other things as institutions. According to Sumner and Keller institution is a vital interest or activity that
is surrounded by a cluster of mores and folkways. Sumner conceived of the institution not only of the
concept, idea or interest but of a institution as well. By structure he meant an apparatus or a group of
functionaries. Lester F Ward regarded an institution as the means for the control and utilization of the social
energy. L.T Hobhouse describe institution as the whole or any part of the established and recognized
apparatus of social life. Robert Maclver regarded institution as established forms or conditions of procedure
characteristic of group activity.

PART 2. EXTEND
1. In your own opinion, Why is education important nowadays?
Answer
Education lessens the challenges you will face in life. The more knowledge you gain the more opportunities

will open up to allow individuals to achieve better possibilities in career and personal growth. Education has
played an important role in the career world of the twenty-first century. Education improves and refines the
speech of a person. Furthermore, individuals also improve other means of communication with Education.
Education makes an individual a better user of technology. Education certainly provides the technical skills
necessary for using technology. Main purpose of education is to educate individuals within society, to
prepare and qualify them for work in economy as well as to integrate people into society and teach them
values and morals of society. Role of education is means of socializing individuals and to keep society
smoothing and remain stable. Those who get an education have higher incomes, have more opportunities in
their lives, and tend to be healthier. Societies benefit as well. Societies with high rates of education
completion have lower crime, better overall health, and civic involvement. Lack of access to education is
considered the root of poverty.

2. Based on your understanding, What is the importance of a family to the government?

Answer
The truth of the matter is that you can never have a whole nation without a perfect family. The
responsibility of building a perfect family falls in the hands of all the family members. The failures of one
family member can lead to the collapse of the entire household. It’s sorrowful to find one family member
destroying the reputation of the entire family unit. In a real family, every family member should work
towards building a perfect unit. The family has a great impact on the society, and the society influences the
operations of a country. It means that both the government and family member build up the country. You
should realize that each family member is the ultimate key to the society. This aspect explains the why the
family is important in the society. If you want to correct some vices within a country, you should narrow
down to the family.

3. In your own views, Why do we need to follow the government rule?

Answer
All government regulations on business require companies to comply with federal, state, and local statues
and regulations administered by legislative bodies and carried out by regulatory agencies. Some regulations
impact the ways in which businesses report income and pay taxes; others regulate how they dispose of their
excess materials or waste. For just about any kind of industry and transaction, there are government
regulations on business. The sheer volume of government regulations on business can make your head spin,
whether or not you’re just starting out or are a seasoned small business professional. And even finding the
locations of these regulations can seem overwhelming. But despite the high volume of government
regulations on business, understanding the general rules of the road isn’t actually as scary as it sounds. The
secret to understanding government regulations on business is knowing where to look, and what kind of
laws you’re looking for. There are several places for entrepreneurs to go depending on what kind of
regulatory information they need.
