Drupal Manual - Regional Client

Drupal is a content management system with separate front-end and back-end interfaces. The back-end allows editing existing content and adding new content like images and documents. To upload a file, select "add media" and fill in relevant metadata before linking the file to content pages. Teasers on pages can be linked to media files by pasting the media node number into the teaser link field.

2 Overview

2.1 Frontend and Backend

We differ between the frontend, where the website is displayed to the end users and the
backend, where we can change the content of the website and especially your pages.

You can switch from frontend to backend:

- if you press up the button “Inhalt” in the corner on the left

- alternatively, you directly search your page in the frontend and push the “edit” sign

2.2 The Backend

If you navigate to the «Inhalt» you see a list of every content created.

‐ The first view and most important to distinguish the different content, is the Admin title.
The admin title consists of the creation date (2104 means April 2021), the location on
the website, the type of content and the language (EN  English), like:
‐ 1708 > Was_wir_tun > Schwerpunkte > EN
‐ 2104 > Landingpage > Countrypage > Myanmar > EN
‐ 2110 > Themen > DE

The «Inhaltstyp» shows also, which kind of content has been created (News, Teaser, Landing
page etc.)

‐ You can also search here for your pages in the field “Admin title / Title”.

2.3 Editing and changing existing content

Please note: You are only allowed to the change the content of the pages of which you
are the administrator. Please get in contact with the Communication Department/ Media
& Information to get the rights for your pages.

After finding your page, press “edit” to edit your page:

See here the structure of a Landing page, f. ex. the Landing page of the Myanmar
Countrypage

Please don’t change anything at the buttom of the page at the donation are:

2.4 Add media

If you navigate to «Medien» you can upload pictures and documents via «add media»

3 Upload an image or a document

Please note: There are only two formats for pictures possible:

A Picture for a teaser: 900 x 600Pixel

Hero-Images: 1400 x 640 Pixel

If you want to upload something, navigate to «media» in the backend and choose «add
media»

Depending on the content you want to upload choose the relevant button (document, image
or video).

For a image fill in the relevant information «Name», «Alternative

Bildbeschreibung»/Alternative text, «Credits» and «Tags» and upload the image.

Besides «Name» and «Alternative text», its very important adding the credits and tags. The
tags might be country, continent, topic like «access to land» or describing content like
«women/children».

10

For a document fill in the «Name» upload the document.

At the end always press «save». if you don’t want to publish the content yet, you can
remove the check.

11

3.1 Connect a teaser with a content: Linkages

In order to publish an uploaded document on the website you have to connect it on your
page, or in a teaser which is linked on the page.

To connect a teaser with a media select the relevant teaser in the backend and choose edit.

As alternative you can also navigate to the relevant teaser in the frontend and press the
button up in the right corner.

12

How to link your document?

Whenever you upload something in the media storage, Drupal creates a new number/a new
node (yellow marked). You can see the node directly while uploading it or while hovering over
it on the dashboard.

13

You now paste this media number/ node in the link section of the teaser you want to connect
it with.

In this example the media link/node of the

“Factsheet21x_Country_Programme_Bangladesh_361000” is the node /media/1974 (see the
yellow marker).

Please fill in the media-link (not the full link, only /media/Number) in the link field and press
“save”.

In the case you want to connect to another site you have to paste the weblink like in the
example below.
