This document describes how to program frequencies into a

Baofeng UV-3R’s memory channels.


If several frequencies are to be programmed, it is easier if they
are entered in Frequency Offset Size, Frequency Offset
Direction and Tone Frequency order. There is no need to enter
them in Channel Number sequence.
Turn radio ON by holding the orange button on the front for
several seconds.
If in Memory mode, switch to VFO mode by holding the [U/V]
for several seconds.
1. Frequency Step Size
Press [MENU]
Rotate dial to 9 (Step)
Press [U/V] key to enter set mode
Rotate dial to desired step frequency
Press [U/V} key to save setting
Press [MENU] or {PTT] to exit.
2. Power level
Press [MENU]
Rotate dial to 7 (Power)
Press [U/V] key to enter set mode
Rotate dial to HIGH or LOW
Press [U/V} key to save setting
Press [MENU] or {PTT] to exit.
3. Deviation
Press [MENU]
Rotate dial to 13 (W/N)
Press [U/V] key to enter set mode
Rotate dial to WIDE or NARROW
Press [U/V} key to save setting
Press [MENU] or {PTT] to exit.
4. Repeater Offset Frequency
Press [MENU]
Rotate dial to 10 (OFFSET)

Press [U/V] key to enter set mode
Rotate dial to desired frequency.
(VHF = 0.600 KHz – UHF = 5 MHz)
Pressing the [F/A] key briefly will allow the dial to
change the frequency in 1 MHz steps
Press [U/V} key to save setting
Press [MENU] or {PTT] to exit.
5. CTCSS (PL) Tone Frequency when transmitting (for
repeater access)
Press [MENU]
Rotate dial to 2 (TXCODE)
Press [U/V] key to enter set mode
Rotate dial to select frequency
Press [U/V} key to save setting
Press [MENU] or {PTT] to exit.
6. CTCSS (PL) Tone Frequency (when receiving (normally
off)
Press [MENU]
Rotate dial to 1 (RXCODE)
Press [U/V] key to enter set mode
Rotate dial to select frequency
Press [U/V} key to save setting
Press [MENU] or {PTT] to exit.
7. Enter Receive frequency
Use the dial to enter the frequency. Pressing the [F/A]
key briefly will allow the dial to change the frequency in
1 MHz steps. CAUTION: Holding the F/A key for
longer than a few seconds will cause the unit to transmit
the panic alarm.
8. Store frequency
Press [F/A] + [U/V]. A channel number will begin to
flash.
Rotate dial to select channel.
Press [U/V} key to save setting
