5e's Lesson Plan in Science

The lesson plan discusses teaching elementary students about force and motion in physics, earth, and space science. Students will identify things that can make objects move, observe and investigate the position and movement of objects, and describe Newton's three laws of motion. A variety of hands-on activities are included, such as pushing, dropping, and throwing objects to observe motion, identifying positions of objects in pictures, demonstrating forces and motion with models, and playing games involving jumping ropes, kicking balls, and tug-of-war to observe what makes objects move and how forces interact. Assessment involves having students write about their understandings of force and motion.

5E’S LESSON PLAN IN TEACHING SCIENCE IN ELEMENTARY GRADES

(PHYSICS, EARTH AND SPACE SCIENCE)

CATHERINE K. DOMOCOM BEED 2-A

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to;

 Identify things that can make the objects move.

 Observe and investigate the position and movement of things
around them.
 Able to describe the three laws of motion.

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Force and Motion

B. References:

Science and Health Today 1. Apolinario, Nenita A. 1997. pp. 154- 157. *

(S3FE-IIIcd-2)

C. Materials:
Learning materials, printed pictures and Laptop (for videos)
D. Science Concept:
Force and motion are fundamental to all matter in the universe. A
force is anything that can push or pull on an object. Forces
influence objects that are at rest or that are already in motion.
Motion is a movement from one place to another. Isaac Newton's
three laws of motion involves inertia, mass, velocity, and
momentum.

E. Process skills:
Observing, communicating, inferring, explaining.

III. Procedure

A. ENGAGE
Have a activity entitled “ PUSH, DROP and THROW’.
INSTRUCTION:
Materials: We will need a pencil, eraser and a piece of paper.

 Push your pencil across the desk or any flat surface.

 Drop the eraser onto the floor next to your table.
 Take a piece of paper and roll it and toss it away slowly.
 Toss another piece of paper but this time you’re gonna throw it
harder.
 Ask your students on what they have observed about the object while doing the
activity.
 Ask them what they think made them move.
 How are the force in motion interacting with your body.
 Say: the object have their similarities in motion. The similarity is that they both
follows the law of physics.

B. EXPLORE

 Divide the class into three groups and do the following activity.

Directions: Identify the position of the following objects based on the pictures
below.

1. liquid detergents
2. Rattan laundry basket
3. Flat iron
4. Washing Machine
5. cabinet
6. sofa
7. chair
8. table
9. plant
10. oranges

C. EXPLAIN
 Let the students watch a video from youtube
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lOyW3pEUl0)
 Demonstrate force and motion with them.
Materials:
1. Balloons 2. Stick 3. Straw
4. Yarn 5. Tape

 Instruct the students properly while doing the model.

 Explain what is force and motion and it’s example.
 Discuss the three laws of motion by Isaac Newton.

D. ELABORATE
Find out how an object can have different motions.

Materials:
 rope
 small toy car
 scissors

Procedure:
1. Tie a half meter of rope to the front bumper of the toy car.
Do the following movements. Trace the motion of the car on the floor with
a chalk.
A. Face the front of the car. Pull the car toward you.
B. Pull the car away from you.
C. Stay behind the car. Pull the car alternately from left to right.
D. Remove the rope from the car. Lay the car on the floor. Hold the
roof of the car with your thumb and middle finger. Then give it a sharp
twist.

Record your observations in the table. Check the correct column to

describe on what happened in the procedure.

Guide Questions:
1. In how many ways were you able to move the car?
2. Can you also do those movements on your own? How?

E. EVALUATION

Activity 1.
Materials:
 Pencil
 jumping rope
 soccer ball

Procedure:
1. Go outside the classroom.
2. Call on volunteers. Volunteers will be asked to do the following activities. The
rest of the class will observe.

a. The first three volunteers will play a jumping rope game.

b. The next two volunteers will kick the soccer ball gently toward each other.
c. The next six volunteers will divide themselves into two groups with three
members each. They will play tug-of-war.
3. The class will observe the volunteers a they do each activity. They will write the
following information in the table.
(observation template)

Moving Objects What makes object move?

1.
2.
3.

Guide Questions:
1. Can the objects in the first column move on their own?
2. What caused these objects to move?
3. What would happen if there is nothing to cause a movement?

 In a one whole sheet of paper, let the students write all of their
learnings about the topic that have been discussed.
