UNIVERSITY OF THE PEOPLE

BUS 5511 HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

UNIT 1: WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT

The role of human resources management in today's organizations. Competencies that you

consider to be key for your organization and why?

The human resources management team advises management on how to strategically manage its

employees, who are among the company's most valuable resources. This includes hiring and

firing employees, monitoring employees, and designing employee development training.

The role of human resources is also strategic. The HRM team advises the management team on

how to strategically manage people as business resources

(Bianca, 2019).

They develop systems and processes within the organization that address the strategic needs of

the business. What was once a hiring process is now a team-based process of hiring the best

possible talent, who are recruited through methods that range from employee referrals to social

media sourcing.

These employees also commit to aligning with the company's culture. They are familiar with the

task of building a culture that will help your organization succeed and thrive. This is a

completely different path that is constantly evolving. “Make sure your HR team is prepared for

it.” Heathfield (2021)
The concept of core competency as it applies to organizations is defined in the Business

Dictionary as follows: Something that cannot be easily imitated. A core competency is one or

more of the competitive advantages a company has in creating and delivering value to its

customers in its chosen industry. It gives you an edge, also called

core competencies or outstanding competencies.” Lucas (2019)

In my company, I consider sales skills to be one of the most important because we interact with

customers on a daily basis and sell our products and services to them. In addition to sales,

forward-thinking and self-confidence of the employees are the most significant. Considering that

this is a small company, only one person is in charge of human resources management, who also

performs other tasks.

Core competencies I expect to need tomorrow

I work in marketing and I constantly need new competences. In addition to constant knowledge

and learning, I realized that I needed the ability to negotiate. The basis is certainly knowledge,

but also the ability to apply this knowledge. But knowledge alone cannot be sufficient.

Social skills are also needed, as well as the aforementioned negotiation power. The more I

progress in business, the better terms I have to negotiate with my employer and clients.

I believe that the most necessary competencies that will prove valuable in the future are

flexibility and communication skills. The global pandemic has brought about a completely

different way of doing business that we all have to adapt to. Many of us work from home and

that's where flexibility is key, but also communication to avoid noise.

Can these competencies change? Why?

Competencies change depending on work experience. Progress requires more knowledge and

experience, but also different social skills that put us in a balanced position. It is not the same to

be employed in an entry-level position and a senior position.

There is a possibility that there will be changes in the necessary competencies, because from

what has already been seen with the global pandemic, it is clear that we cannot predict future

events.

According to S.L., "Eleven years from now, in 2030, you'll likely be in jobs that don't even

exist yet, like building flying cars or building the world's first time machine." The world of work

is evolving rapidly, and we need to understand how to prepare for the

unpredictable future professional roles.” (L., 2021))

How are HR functions evolving to remain viable within organizations?

Human resources, like employees, must be developed in accordance with the growth of the

company, but also with the offer on the market.

Senyucel (2009) argues that companies adapting to the market gain a competitive advantage.

The change in technology has profoundly affected the role of human resources because human

resources have been given a new role – a strategic one. .

As priorities change, so do people's roles. Paradigm shift management theory is constantly

changing the role of human resources. As your organization transforms, so must your people to

move your business forward.
Conclusion

Human resources is a very dynamic management body in a company that is very susceptible to

change. They have to deal with global changes as well as changes within the company and

manage the knowledge and competence of employees as best as possible.
