Letter From The President


Welcome to the 2011/2012 season! We just completed a very successful year with some great seminars, lunch meetings, and networking opportunities. But we must keep moving forward. Our new Board includes some that have served for years who bring experience to our Chapter, and new members who bring fresh ideas and enthusiasm. Your Board just completed a successful full-day workshop, where we developed plans for this year and goals for the future. One of our first tasks was to develop a Chapter Mission Statement: The RIMS Alabama Chapter is the leader in providing education, innovation, information and networking opportunities for the risk management and insurance community in Alabama. You will see this Mission statement written in a lot of places, but our goal is that you experience it through the various meeting opportunities we have planned for the coming year. .Continued to Page 3

John attended Samford University where he earned his undergraduate degree as well as a Master of Science in Environmental Management. He also earned his Juris Doctorate Degree from Cumberland School of Law. He has been at Vulcan Materials Company since 1988.

2nd Annual RIMS Day


Embassy Suites - Homewood Wednesday, November 2, 2011 8:00 am - 1:00 pm RIMS Members - Free Guest - $30 SESSIONS: Session #1: A Survey of Risk Management Techniques With both internal and stakeholders asking more and more risk-related questions, it is critically important for risk management professionals to utilize the latest techniques that enable them to identify, quantify and manage the insurable and non-insurable risks of your organization. Learn about the latest advances in risk management. Session #2: A Panel Discussion featuring local Risk Managers Who Will Discuss Risk Management Techniques at their Companies We are looking for Risk Managers to sit on our panel discussion.if YOU are interested or know anyone who might be interested, please let Bethany Herrington or Becky Chilcoat know. Registration and continental breakfast begin at 7:45 am with the seminar starting at 8:30 am. Lunch will be served at noon.

...Continued from Page 1 (Letter From the President) Our planning retreat also resulted in a 3-Year Plan with some lofty goals, and various Board members who will champion these goals: Increase membership by 20% Increase member involvement by having 50% of our members attending meetings regularly Increase Chapter board members by 20% How in the world can we accomplish these goals? We will need your support and willingness to get involved. The Alabama RIMS Chapter can only be successful if its members are not only active in attending the meetings, but also become a dynamic group of volunteers working together. This Newsletter outlines some outstanding opportunities that include educational meetings, community service, and networking in the coming year - including meeting dates, locations, and topics. More details on each event will be sent to you as the event dates approach but go ahead and SAVE THESE DATES! In addition, information will be posted on our Chapter website, LinkedIn and Facebook. So check us out! I am honored to work with a Board that is committed to supporting the Alabama Chapter in such a meaningful way, and we are proud to serve in a leadership capacity for the Chapter.
