Unit 1: Introduction to manufacturing and metal casting
A Question for you
Look around you, what do you observed?
→ We are surrounded by materialistic world where things are
manufactured.
Are they available naturally? Like chair, table, fan , AC etc.
→ No, All of these are manufactured from raw material

Everything we use to
see in our daily life is
being manufactured
ie. having proper
dimension, particular
processing operation

Unit 1: Introduction to manufacturing and metal casting
 Manufacturing:- Process of converting raw material into a more
usable form
 Process of “adding value” to an existing product

Value addition by
manufacturing process
Unit-1

Manufacturing is one
way by which nations
create material wealth
Manufacturing Technology
Unit 2: Joining and assembly processes
Usefulness
Some (even simple) products are too large to be made by individual
processes.
Easier, more economical to manufacture & join individual components.
Products to be disassembled for maintenance
