OPINION/STAND: I am against the Martial Law during the Marcos’ regime and even now for

our today’s society.

REASON 1: The government thought that it is the best way to solve the crimes before but, it is

what harmed most of our country men before.

REASON 2: The announcement of the start of Martial law gave everyone the fear to fight for

what is right and the fear of having nothing but themselves without any support from others.

EVIDENCE OR PROOF: Many media and various photos that is out in public for viewing in

different media such as that news of the tortures before from different news giving bodies that

present at that time. There are also biographies of known and common Filipino people that

experienced first handedly how bad the Martial Law affected the country and its countrymen

before.

COUNTER-OPINION: I believe that Martial Law is beneficial during the Marcos’ Regime

since it is their only way to lessen down the number of crimes during that time.

COUNTERARGUMENT: For me, the Martial Law is the most beneficial type of justice

system that we had in our country, because of people’s fear that time the country is at peace not

unless people do those bad things before.

ESSAY:

According to the 1973 Philippine Republic Constitution, the public's safety must be

prioritized over all other considerations before the Prime Minister, who serves as the country's

commander-in-chief, may impose martial law. However, if the President uses this option, the
military forces may be tainted, and he or she may end up as a hostage ambitious general who

may wish to use a puppet president to exercise their power without concomitant obligation. This

proclamation also suspended the Writ of Habeas Corpus, which suspended an accused person's

ability to defend his or her rights in front of a judge or other authority figure. Now, the

President's decision will determine the accused person's destiny. I think the country responded

positively in the early days of this proclamation because they too think the Philippines is ill and

in rebellion some rural areas have been in power against the government, and communist armed

troops are attempting to conquer the country.

But I also thought that during that time, Ferdinand Marcos' power went beyond what was

appropriate for a head of state. Marcos changed the constitution multiple times when martial law

was in effect, and I think he did it for political gain. Democracy has been put on hold, and there

is no longer any news critical of the Marcos administration in broadsheet publications or even in

the broadcast media, such as radio and television. Additionally, media outlets critical of the

Marcos administration's wrongdoings and shortcomings have been shut down. People who

merely want to express what they believe to be true and what they believe to be best for the

country are imprisoned. In addition to the claims of corruption and violations of its own

constitution, democracy and human rights have also been abused throughout this time of Marcos'

presidency. Sen. Benigno "ninoy" Aquino is the most important person to be imprisoned. He

disapproves of the Marcos administration's dishonest actions.

His assassination on the tarmac of Manila International Airport is an eye-opener for the

Filipino people who are afraid to speak out against the Marcos administration. However, before

that, after he was imprisoned, he was exiled to the United States of America, and because he
loved his country and people as well as, perhaps, because he wanted to be the next president of

the Republic, he returned home and faced the consequences.

I did believe that during the time of Martial Law, not to mention the positive effects that

this We have received proclamations on discipline, submission, and loyalty to the ruling party.

The authorities have used the declaration of martial law in a way that will make the people of

this country hate them by breaking their own constitution, misusing public funds, violating their

legal rights, and brainwashing the military, whose main goal is to protect the country rather than

harm its citizens.

Martial law revived a passion for one's nation and a yearning for democracy rather than a

one-person tyranny. The onset of martial law encouraged people to join, fight for, and adore

freedom. Human rights shouldn't be compromised in order to achieve a shared objective. We

must set our objectives and vision with respect for both the citizens' rights and our own

constitution if we are to advance.
