Problem 1: Consider the circuit shown in Fig 1. If β of the transistor is 30, ICBO is 20 nA,
VCE (Sat)  0.2 V and Vi  5 V , find the operating region of the transistor.

Problem 2: For the circuit shown in Fig. 2, determine I C and VCE. What is the minimum value of
RC for which the transistor just enters the saturation region? Assume VCE (Sat)  0.1 V .

Problem 4: Analyze the transistor circuit shown in Fig. 4 and obtain the currents IB, IC and IE
and voltages VB, VC, VE, VCB, and VCE. Comment on the biasing of the circuit as to whether it is in
the cut off, active or saturation mode.

Problem 5: Find I B , IC and VCE in the following BJT circuit shown in Fig. 5 for two cases:
(a) When the switch S is OPEN, (b) When the switch S is CLOSED.

Comment in each case whether the BJT is in active, cut off or in saturation mode. Use constant
voltage drop model (0.7 V) for diodes and VBE=0.7 V.

Problem 6: The transistor circuit shown in Fig. 6 has the following DC bias conditions.
VCE  3 V , VE  0.5 V , IC  1 mA . Determine the values of resistors R1 , R2 , R3 and R4 . Neglect
the base current in the analysis. Choose R1 and R2 such that the current through them is about
10 times the base current. The β of the transistor is 50.
