Field Study is all about the students and the setting in which they are shaped, cultivated,
and raised into the ideal person. The main objective of Field Study is to observe the
students, facilities, and the community. Since this is the students teachers first exposure
to a classroom setting, it is expected that they will take note ;of the classroom and school
amenities as well as the organizational structure of the institution.
Through the Field Study, I was able to have my first campus observation. The primary
goal of the observation is to being direct contact with students and to examine the
physical features of the school, such as the various buildings, classroom, etc. I had the
opportunity to meet several students from the different field for the first time. It's also
the first time I've ever actually observed a classroom. I picked up a lot of knowledge
regarding the learning environment for the students. My cooperating teacher gave me a
lot of advice and tips on how to make a classroom be productive and accommodating for
the varying learners requirements.
The observation was successful, and I learned a lot and acquired experiences. I had a lot of
wonderful insights and reflections as a result. The teacher must first recognize and respect each
students uniqueness while also ensuring that all subsequent processes are based on the needs of
the students.
The area of MIS- High School Department is encompassed by many trees and it is beside the stage of the school.
The remote area is clean and abundant with many trees. The school campus is clean, attractive in color, and wide
in space. The school is composed of two storeys which occupy the classrooms, offices, and laboratories. Both
offices were clean and structurally organized. The principal's office impressed my attention since it is clean,
colorful, attractive, seats are also available for the visitors, with proper ventilation and lighting and everything
were arranged accordingly. The school halls are clean and quiet. There are students in the library, silently reading
books, some are working on their laptops and librarian is busy organizing some books. The cafeteria looks small
and has a few chairs and tables but accommodate students well. There is a big quadrangle at the center of the
campus. The school has a social hall, a computer laboratory, and clinic which are all are accessible The
classroom are clean, organized and well ventilated. There are signage and proper labels so that offices can be
easily found.
Each classroom displays various information in their walls. All of them has a vision, mission, goals and objectives
of the school which are put in a big frame. There are classroom prayer in the center of the wall. Other visual aids
posted included the class names and important reminders, etc. Some classrooms have tables for teachers.
Teacher's table is usually located center front of the blackboard. The chairs and desks are arranged in 3-4 rows.
There are incomplete materials present in each room which each of them has a blackboard and chalk. Some
equipements like projector or laptop is provided by the teachers. Each room is being occupied by a minimum of
40-50 students. They are seated according to a seat plan created by the teacher or just usual alphabetical
seating arrangement. Each room is well lit, clean and ventilated. Windows are left open in the morning to let in
the fresh air but students close them after the class. The room has 4 ceiling fan and 4 fluorescent lights. Overall,
each classroom provides a comfortable space for students to learn well.
The school campus and the classroom are the learning space of the students. Because of this,
what composes these two may directly affect the learning process of the students. Everything
that makes up the school and the classroom influence the result of the student's learning
whether it is effective or unsuccessful. If the classroom is well-organized, warm, and free from
distractions, the students may learn better and yield positive results in their learning because
there is a sense of peacefulness around them gives them comfortable space to learn well.
The purpose of the board display is to inform the students about the latest updates or
memorandums, motivates them to be achievers and engage them through participating on
school activities or upcoming projects. The board display is effective in informational aspect. It
conveys the information well but in terms of motivational aspect, it didn't meet the
characteristic of a motivating board display. It is because it lacks interactivity and
attractiveness which are important in engaging an audience. To improve this board display, I’m
suggesting to pay attention to the design and lay-out of the materials because these aspect are
the key the effectiveness of the board display and to achieve its purposes which are to inform
and motivate the students.
Observing these students made me remember how I used to be. When I was in class, I behaved exactly like a typical
pre-schooler—I was animated and cheerful. I enjoy grabbing everyone's attention. However, I prefer to play alone
most of the time and never wish to play with others. As I get better grades, I begin to love conversing with others,
discussing my preferences and telling them about most of my fantasies. In elementary school, I didn't have many
friends who could cheer me up while I was being harassed or bullied. I was a total sap at the moment. I couldn't take
being let down. I was always a high achiever, but I don't have adequate social skills. I was hard to talk to. I
experienced mood swings during high school, just like everybody else.
I had a small number of friends, as I have indicated. My Grade 9 teacher finds this upsetting because I'm not the
outgoing sort. She frequently advises me to start making friends and treating people nicely. I'm not nasty, but at
that point I was incredibly hard to get a hold of. And because of her, I began to socialize with others and establish
new acquaintances.
Working with various learners is challenging. Teachers need to be aware that these variations play a role in how well
students achieve. No matter how diverse they are, a teacher must be able to meet their requirements. When working
with different groups of learners, teachers must adapt all of their techniques or strategies. However, the most
crucial thing is for the teacher to respect these distinctions and encourage other pupils to embrace their
individuality.
The intelligent kids in the class compete to provide the loudest and most accurate response. The others simply wait
till they are finished. However, the class's favorite activity is debate. While some pupils respond, others simply raise
their hands and the teacher assists them in responding. Because she is aware that these children are not paying
attention, the teacher obviously shouts out the students in the back. The silent students or those who are generally
quiet go about their daily activities as students; some listened to music, some stayed in and played phone games,
while others watched anime and read books. What influences them to assume these roles are their peers, their
belief that they would be better to be this way, people’s reaction that somehow satisfy them and their teachers’
meaningful feedback. The teacher encourages the children to be kind and considerate with their words, to support
one another and appreciate one another's differences, and to be there for one another as friends who are prepared
to lend a hand and provide emotional support. The teacher also exhorts the pupils to respect and accept one
another's beliefs and points of view, as well as their shared interests, pastimes, and preferences.
The students form groups depending on their shared interests. Some are interested in K-POP and other foreign pop
cultures, while others are grouped because they previously attended the same area or school. Some students also
form groups based on their gender. The transfer student from another school is the one who is not interacting with
anyone. The student is still adjusting to his new environment while waiting for someone to approach him first.
The observations I made and the notes I made, based on the teacher's information, matched what she
had given in terms of the students' needs, performance, and how she manages those needs and how
she tries to create activities that would suit those needs.
It is clear that the class is made up of a variety of kids with varying skill sets. These skills range in terms
of their amount of independence, present knowledge and skills, and other factors. While some students
with lower ability find it difficult to grasp the lesson, better ability pupils are those who can study on
their own. These types of students in the class require efficient approaches to address their various
demands. For instance, the teacher might use differentiated teaching by breaking out the different
parts of the lesson plan into phases like review, inquiry, comprehension, and application. Peer
interaction groups, team building exercises, and other educational modalities are also available.
I have seen that the teacher presents the subject in a variety of ways. She uses a variety of resources
and methods, including film, books, and multimedia, to support her discussion. Additionally, she offers
several platforms for students to present, create, and write about what they have learned. She also
uses performance-based activities and genuine assessment, enables children to collaborate with peers,
and promotes learning.
There are various types of Grade 7 kids in the class. According to what I have seen of them, they are highly engaged
in class, always express their thoughts, and are competitive. 13 to 15 is the range of their ages. There are 30 girls and
28 boys. They are somewhat boisterous, but their attitudes toward learning are admirable. When speaking to their
teachers and classmates, they are also polite. In oral activities, they also make an effort to provide a thorough
response and are eager to learn. Their actions demonstrate how immature they are and how much they still require
parental and school care. They can work on their projects solo, but they typically prefer to collaborate with their
colleagues.
The classroom is set up in a straightforward manner that is characteristic of conventional high schools in the
Philippines, with a table in the front center and a blackboard in front of it. There are barely any remaining places for
other locations since the row of sofas takes up the entire room. The back of the room has a large table where
students store their personal items. In the left corner of the room, close to the window, is a little cupboard. There
are some of the older assignments and products of former pupils on display. Most of the wall displays are located at
the wall's right side and back. Despite the fact that it discourages active learning environments, the way it is set up
nevertheless fosters positive learning among students.
Making rules for the classroom reflects the students' successful learning. Students take ownership of their actions,
which helps them comprehend their tasks properly. The teacher said that the pupils took part in creating the
classroom rules through a vote led by the president of the class under the teacher's direction. The likelihood of
students developing good discipline and responsibility and adhering to the rules increases when they participate in
the rule-making process.
The teacher welcomes the class and asks a student representative to lead the prayer to begin the lesson. She then asks
how everyone is doing. Students typically claim that they are doing well. She let them to take their seats before
beginning to prepare her speech (laptop, projector). She also calls out the students' last names to register attendance.
From A to Z, the students were seated in the classroom. She does, however, allow pupils who have vision or hearing
issues to sit in front. The teacher can quickly detect the absent children with this set up. This aids her with spoken
recognition of student names, in particular.
High school kids enjoy talking a lot with their seatmates, thus the noise level in the classroom is usually pretty high. All of
the kids actively participate in the discussion and are eager to contribute their insights. The teacher tells everyone to
decrease their voices, but she does so calmly. She warns them that they risk disturbing other classes with their loud
noises.
There are some students that do not adhere to the rules, particularly when completing their assignments. The teacher
still accepts their work but cautions students to pay attention to the directions because if they repeat the same error,
she will stop accepting it. They are better able to learn from their error and pay attention to the teacher's directions as a
result.
Let them set the rules for the classroom. Deal with issues in a cordial way. She converses with them calmly rather than
reprimanding them. Celebrate accomplishments by applauding them. Provide incentives or awards to encourage people
to work harder. Make the class conversation interesting and entertaining. Include exercises that encourage teamwork
and peer mentoring.
Organization and routine in the classroom assist students better manage their learning and have a beneficial impact on their
behavior. Additionally, it boosts their self-esteem, controls their behavior, and fosters positive relationships in the
classroom. Additionally, students may be able to cultivate self-control, which can lessen the likelihood that they will drop
out of their classes.
The following theories and principles must be taken into account by the instructor while planning classroom routine and
organization:
Behaviorist theory, often known as behaviorism, which focuses on both positive and bad student actions.
A humanist theory or humanism that stresses human capacities, goals, learning preferences, and learning styles.
Democratic theory, in which students are given equal opportunity to pick their own educational path and the possibility to
participate in decision-making over learning.
Psychoanalytic theory, according to which a teacher must take into account students' conscious or unconscious thoughts,
feelings, and experiences.
The cognitive theory should also be taken into account in order to focus on the learners' thought processes and knowledge
building.
The following behavioral techniques can be used by teachers to control or effectively inspire pupils' behavior:
Create a new learner-centered classroom environment where students can be more independent and self-reliant.
To support the various learner types, use a wide range of resources, materials, techniques, and instructional styles.
Establish guidelines or standards for the classroom that are simple enough for kids to understand.
Effectively reinforce teaching practices and routines.
Recognize their efforts and give them rewards when they behave well. This will continue their display of positive behavior in
addition to motivating them.
The procedures used in class are successful in maintaining order and discipline. Clearly, the class is structured, the kids
are paying attention, and the instruction is going smoothly. The discussion, activities, and assessments make good use of
the limited time. As a result, the particular learning goals for each session were accomplished.
The teacher follows a set of systematic and reliable procedures. The following are these practices:
Morning prayer
Noting attendance and absences
Lunch and break
Independent work/seeking assistance
Toilet policy
Schoolwork
Behavior Management
The teacher and the students followed these procedures on a regular and organized basis. These customs help maintain
unity when teaching in the classroom.
To ensure the safety and security of the students, classroom rules must be enforced and reinforced. Rules also instill self-
control and discipline. Rules reduce anxiety and provide a more comfortable, secure, and non-threatening workplace.
Rules help to keep students engaged and concentrated throughout class activities.
The students are drawn to the teacher's well-modulated voice, which makes them want to listen
intently and participate fully in class. The teacher's punctuality demonstrates her persistence
and tenacity in her efforts to set an example for his students.
To enhance student learning and their conduct about academic success, we must examine the
practical components of classroom management.
The resource teacher used a variety of tactics because I think that in order to be a great
teacher, we as teachers need to be well-versed in a variety of strategies. And certainly, those
techniques aid in better classroom management since they facilitate the development of
positive relationships between the teacher and the students as well as their ability to think
critically and accomplish the goals that have been set.
As far as I'm concerned, I think the resource teacher effectively used all of the instructional
tactics and none of them were ineffective.
Today is the beginning of my field study- participation and teaching
assistantship at Malhacan Integrated School as a student-teacher. I met and
interact with many teachers and several students. I also found out who will be
my cooperating teacher but he was not there that day. That's why I'm the one in
charge of watching over his students. I was happy and excited on my first day
because I talked to different kinds of students. Even though all I had to do in
class was observation. I felt the respect and politeness of the students towards
me. While my cooperating teacher was not there, I first observed their other
subject teacher. All the teachers from their principal that i met and talked to at
MIS are nice and approachable. They guide and taught me what to do and how
to handle students correctly. In the next few days, I will improve my work and
help my cooperating teacher.
Today, I am in charge of watching the students of Sir Aloysius, my
cooperating teacher. Today I met his students one by one. I learned
their names, passion and their talent. They were all fun and talented
because many of them showed their drawing. I was also happy
because they enjoyed the game I prepared that would also test ability
to think. They all participated and answered correctly in my prepared
game. The students at Malhacan Integrated School are really good
and talented.
Today, me and my MIS team went to barangay Malhacan to witness
the gift giving for malnourished kids. The program is called "make a
child smile". The parents of malnourished children went to their
barangays to receive the gifts from PCCM teachers and students.
From our dean and our professors and staffs of barangays
distributed gift giving with us. We are happy that we were able to
give joy to children and parents by distributed gifts to them. It's a
great opportunity for me to be part of these programs. That's why I
would like to express my gratitude to our professors who have
been included and help us in a program like this.
Today, I went to MIS early because there was a flag ceremony, I saw all
the MIS students there. I saw Sir Aloysius's students, they were complete
and lined up neatly. When the flag ceremony ended and they returned to
their respective classrooms. Today I also met Sir Aloy, my cooperating
teacher. We talked about his schedule, advisory class, lessons and many
others. I went with Sir from his first period to his last class. Sir Aloy is
good at teaching and fun. He knows how to handle students properly. I
also learned a lot from his lesson today and I know his students learned a
lot as well because Sir Aloy teaches well and teaches in detailed. I like his
way of teaching because not only do his students learn a lot, they also
enjoy it and don't get bored in class. I can say that Sir Aloy is an effective
teacher that I should emulate.
Today, I observed different subject teachers of grade 7 and I saw
how they teach and how they handle their students. I learned a lot
from their subject teachers and their teaching methods are
different. I am the one watched over sir's class. Sir left me some
work to do in his class. Each group brought kitchen tools and
equipments. Each member of the group reported what kitchen tools
they brought and explained how to use them correctly. They
reported well and clearly.
Today, I continued what Sir Aloy left me, the presentation of kitchen
tools and equipments in his class. Each group presented in front of
their kitchen tools. They delivered their explanations on the tools
well. Their classmates clearly understood this. I gave chips with
corresponding points to each group that completed the kitchen
tools. In the afternoon we cleaned the classrooms and while there
was time left, they did their activities and homeworks.
Today, we cleaned and decorated the room early for the
Christmas party the next day. Each of sir's students helped clean
and decorate the entire classroom. Their subject teachers didn't
even attend classes. Everyone is busy preparing each classroom
and the others are practicing for their dances that will be
performed tomorrow. In the end, the decorations of every corner
of the classroom turned out to be beautiful. It's nice because they
gave it time and time to work together to beautify and make the
party memorable for them.
Today is the day of the Christmas party of the students of Malhacan
Integrated School. All the students went to school early to hold the party.
Me and Sir Aloy led the party of his section. There were many games and
prizes for the winners, there were raffle gifts that made their hearts happy
and there was also a lot of food donated and shared by the students. After
the games and songs, we shared the food we prepared. After many games,
the children exchanged gifts and were also happy with the gifts they
received from their classmates. In the end I took pictures with sir's
students and teachers. I am very happy today because I am happy that I
helped the party and made the children happy. After the party, my team
and I got bond together and ate outside.
Today is the day students go back to school. I went to Malhacan
Integrated School early because we were going to have a meeting
about our cooperating teachers. We were led by the principal of the
school, Ma'am Theresa Sevilla. We have already found out who will be
our cooperating teacher and what grade level we will be teaching,
that's why we went back to the grade levels we previously held. I was
the one that sir watched over his class and I made them do the activity
that sir asked them to do. It is the drawing of the perfect kitchen
design and the kitchen equipment. Many finished quickly and their
drawings were excellent. I collected their works and while they still had
time they did their other activities and assignments in other subjects.
Today, I went to Malhacan Integrated School early because Sir Aloy
entrusted his students to me because he could not attend his class. While
their teachers were not there, I had them do a motivational activity first
so they wouldn't get bored. Sir's students are really good because I saw
them all unite and perform on the concept of how to show being a good
person. Their shown role playing is interesting and beautiful even if it is
only for a moment. The weather is bad today which is why the city
immediately canceled classes. I immediately sent sir's students home and
I immediately informed him.
Today, I went to Malhacan Integrated School early because there is a flag
ceremony every Monday. Every MIS student lined up evenly following their
respective teachers. As for the students of grade 7, I was one of those who led
them in the arrangement and joined in with those who performed the flag
ceremony. Every student joined in the dancing and singing. When they returned
to their respective classrooms. I was the one who watched over sir Aloy's
students while he was not yet there. When Sir arrived, he began to teach and
discuss his lesson for today. I learned a lot from sir's lesson today and Sir Aloy is
really cool and happy to teach and at the same time I can learn a lot from his
class. In the afternoon, sir attended a meeting. That's why I'm the one in charge to
watch over his students. I made them do the activity that sir left me. Have them
draw the perfect kitchen design with kitchen utensils. They finished drawing so
that I collected their works. Sir Aloy's students are really good.
Today, I observed all the subject teachers of grade 7. They all have different
strategies on how to handle their class or have classroom management.
Each subject teacher I learned a lot from their lesson and I can say that they
are all effective teachers because they can clearly and properly discuss and
explain their lessons. When it was late afternoon, I was in the class of Sir
Aloy, my cooperating teacher. I can say that all the subject teachers of
grade 7 are good. But for me, Sir Aloy is their most effective teacher.
Because sir knows how to get the attention of the students in his class. Sir is
clear to teach and funny. That's why he knows how to make children listen
to him so they immediately understand his lesson.
The Field Study is a teaching strategy that makes the learning process
more active, assists students in working in real-world settings, and
helps them develop skills, competencies, and positive attitudes by
using their already acquired ones. As a field study student, I believe
that teaching and learning should continue to be highly motivated in
the classroom setting. Because it is one of the best ways to make the
