Congruent and Similar Triangles

The document proves that two triangles are similar using the AAA similarity criterion. It states that corresponding angles in the triangles are equal, which is sufficient to prove similarity. Specifically, it shows that angles A=D, B=F, and C=E, meaning the triangles satisfy the angle-angle-angle criterion and are therefore similar.

∠D = ∠A; ∠F = ∠C; ∠E = ∠B

∠A = ∠D; ∠B =∠F; ∠C = ∠F
Then:
∠A = ∠D

Two triangles can be similar, even if they share some elements. In the figure below, the larger triangle PQR is similar
to the smaller one STR. Points S and T are midpoints of PR and QR, respectively. They share the vertex R and part
of the sides PR and QR. They are similar on the basis of AAA, since the corresponding angles in each triangle are
the same.
First, we prove that the triangles are similar. The triangles are orientated in the same manner so it is easy to match
corresponding angles and sides.
We use the proof SAS – two sets of corresponding sides and a set of corresponding angles.
∠X = ∠P
