1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 General
This report deals with the methodology of the Structural Analysis and Design of
Residential Building at Dhapakhel -28 of Mr. Uddhav Thapaliya. The Structure is
completely RCC frame Structure. The plan of building with dimension shown in figure
below which is adopted for the analysis. Typical storey heights are 2.87m considered.
Geologically, project area lies in the flat area of Thali and Soil condition of the site is
considered as Soil Type D i.e., very soft soil sites. Building is eccentrically placed on site
and zone is heavily dense with other high-rise building.
The structure was designed for both serviceability limit state and ultimate limit state. All
the loads’ effects were compared to the reduced nominal strength of the members.
ETABS18.11 “for modelling and design of Plinth beam, main beam, column
and Slab”
SAFE16 “for modelling and design of Reinforced footing”
The weight of infill walls is calculated and applied on beams as line weight in kN/m.
Partition wall load are assigned as uniformly distributed area load in slab as area load in
kN/m2.
Floor finishing load are assigned as area load in slab.
Single type of Live load is assigned in each panel of slab.
A frame load is applied as parapet loading on the exterior frame of the roof level.
Type Value
Reinforced Concrete 25kN/m3
Brick Masonry 18.85kN/m3
Plaster 20.4kN/m3

Table 2: Load Combination
If the neutral axis depth is less than these limiting values, the ultimate moment is
computed by the equation;
If the Neutral Depth is equal to the limiting values, then the section is balanced or limiting
and the moment capacity is evaluated by the equation.
If Tv exceeds Tc, but is less than Tc max, then Shear Reinforcements are designed
to take up the balanced shear Vu – Tc bd
The Strength of Shear Reinforcement Vus is calculated as
Vus = 0.87 fi Asv d / Sv
1.9 Analysis and Design of the Structural Elements:
The Structure is analyzed and designed by standard software ETABS 2018. It is one of the
World’s most popular and widely used structural Engineering Software. It is equipped with
the powerful analysis, design, graphics, and visualization capabilities.
Where,
α - peak spectral acceleration normalized by PGA
Ta and Tc - the lower and upper periods of the flat part of the spectrum
K – Coefficient that controls the descending branch of the spectrum
