Course Name Electricity and Magnetism
Course Description This course aims to integrate electricity and magnetism theories to reality, thereby increasing the level of knowledge in
different circuits. Problem solving and application is a central feature of this course.

Course Credit 4 units (3 units lecture, 1-unit lab)

Showing a good understanding of the course materials by being able to solve numerical problems or deriving relevant equations
Able to solve common problems and demonstrate an understanding of the key concepts in electricity and magnetism.
Ability to grasp the concept of the taught materials and to solve common problems in electricity and magnetism
Students will demonstrate proficiency in mathematics and the mathematical concepts needed for a proper understanding of electricity
and magnetism.
The student should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence: The student

*Electromagnetism (electric and magnetic force and field, circuits, induction), semiconductors and electromagnetic waves.
*Light (reflection, refraction, interference), the wave nature of light and the particle-wave duality.
*The atom, the atomic core, nuclear power, ionizing radiation and radioactivity.
Skills
The student can solve problems with moderate mathematical complexity related to
*Electric and magnetic force and field, electric charge, electric potential, current, voltage and resistance, capacitors, electromagnetic
waves, reflection, refraction, interference and diffraction.
*Time dilatation, length contraction, relativistic momentum and addition of velocity.
*Photo-electric effect, Compton effect, de Broglie wavelength, models of the Hydrogen atom and electron configurations, the atomic
core, binding energy and decay, ionizing radiation, fission and fusion.
*application of Gauss¿ law, Kirchhoff’s laws, Faradays law, Lenz¿ law, Malus law, Snell’s law and Hubble’s law.
