2 x 100G Transponder/Muxponder card - (260SCX2)

Overview
The 2x100G Transponder/Muxponder OT provides 200G transmission capacity in a
single card. The 260SCX2 card supports two modes of operation: 260G mode and 130G
mode.
In the 260G mode, transmission of up to two 100 GbE client signals are transported on
one DWDM line interface. Each 100 GbE client signal is mapped into an OTU4. The two
OTU4 signals are then combined together to form a 260 Gb/s carrier that is sent to the
line interface.
In the 130G mode, transmission for only one 100 GbE client signal (C1) is supported on
the DWDM line interface. The 100 GbE client signal is mapped into an OTU4, and either
SDFEC or AFEC can be provisioned. The line rate is then 130G (for SDFEC) or 112G
(for AFEC). For simplicity, for either FECTYPE chosen (SDFEC or AFEC), the mode is
called 130G mode.
Card mnemonic
The following table specifies the Card mnemonic.

Physical design
The 260SCX2 OT is a two-slot-wide full-height pack. The 260SCX2 supports one
bi-directional optical line interface port (L1). The line port uses fixed, non-pluggable
optics and an LC connector. It also supports two client interfaces (C1, C2) with hot
swappable CFP2 pluggable modules. The 260SCX2 card contains two LEDs, a card
status LED and the line interface LED. Each client port has a dedicated port status LEDs.
The behavior of the utilized LEDs is described in, “Common LEDs of WDM cards”
(p. 19-12).

260SCX2 functional description

The 260SCX2 card supports an adaptive line interface, supporting two user-defined
modes, that is 260G mode and 130G mode.

In the 260G mode, The payload is transmitted on a single PM-16QAM modulated carrier
using a Soft-decision FEC (SDFEC). Alcatel-Lucent Soft Decision FEC is a proprietary
23% overhead FEC providing higher error correction performance than hard-decision
FEC's. This mode supports two 100 GbE client signals (through two CFP2 pluggable
modules). This is also known as the Muxponder application. The line rate for this mode is
260Gb/s.
In the 130G mode, The payload is transmitted on a single PM-QPSK modulated carrier
using either Soft-decision FEC (SDFEC) or Alcatel FEC (AFEC). Alcatel-Lucent Soft
Decision FEC is a proprietary 23% overhead FEC providing higher error correction
performance than hard-decision FEC's. This mode supports only one 100 GbE client
signal (from port C1). The C2 port is not used. This is also known as the Transponder
application. The line rate for this mode is either 112 Gb/s or 130 Gb/s, depending on the
provisioned FECTYPE. For 130G mode, the line interface is a standard OTU4.
260G mode
When the 260SCX2 card is provisioned in 260G mode, up to two client signals are
supported (C1, C2). The client signal rate is 100 GbE. The two client signals are mapped
(through a Mapper device) into two independent OTU4 channels/frames (L1CH1 and
L1CH2). The FEC columns in the frames are not populated by the Mapper device. The
client signal from port C1 is mapped into L1CH1 and the client signal from port C2 is
mapped into L1CH2. The two signals are sent to the PSE, where the two standard OTU4
frames (L1CH1 and L1CH2) are combined into a larger frame, and SDFEC is applied. At
this point, the two standard OTU4 frames (L1CH1 and L1CH2) are combined into a
larger frame, and SDFEC is applied.
At the 260SCX2 line receive port, the SDFEC is processed by the PSE. with FEC
corrected errors, FEC uncorrected block counts and pre/post FECBER reported to the
user. The signal is then de-interleaved into the two independent channels (L1CH2 and
L1CH2) on the PSE. The AFEC for each OTU4 will be processed on the PSE. The
L1CH1 and L1CH2 signals are then sent to the Mapper device for standard ODU4/OTU4
processing (Section/Path layer PM, TTI and so on) on each signal. Finally, the 100 GbE
signals are recovered and sent out to the client interfaces.

130G mode
When the 260SCX2 card is provisioned in 130G mode, only one client signal (C1) is
allowed. The 100 GbE/OTU4 client signal is mapped into an OTU4 frame (by the
Mapper). The FEC columns in the frames are not populated by the Mapper. The signal is
sent to the PSE device. For 130G mode, the user now can select the FECTYPE to use.
The values for FECTYPE can be AFEC or SDFEC. Thus, the line rate is either 112G or
130G, depending on which FECTYPE was selected.
At the 260SCX2 line receive port, when the card is provisioned to 130G mode, the FEC
(either SDFEC or AFEC) is processed by the PSE, with FEC corrected errors, FEC
uncorrected block counts, prefecbits and pre/postFECBER reported to the user. The signal
is then sent to the Mapper for standard ODU4/OTU4 processing (Section/Path layer PM,
TTI, and so on). The 100 GbE signal is then recovered and sent out the client interface
(C1).

Line interface
The 260SCX2 has a tunable coherent non-pluggable optical interface. The line bit rate is
OTU4 (129.280281 Gb/s ± 20 ppm) when provisioned for SD-FEC mode, and OTU4
(111.8099736 Gb/s ± 20 ppm) when provisioned for AFEC mode. See “Optical fixed
line-side WDM OT interfaces” (p. 22-58), for the full specification details of the
260SCX2 line interface.
The line port supports the following signal types:
• OTU4 (that is, 130G mode)
If L1 signal type = OTU4, then only client port C1 can be used.
• OTU4x2 (that is, 260G mode - two combined OTU4 frames)
If L1 signal type = OTU4x2 , then both client ports can be used.
The line interface of 260SCX2 card supports full C-band tunability using either 50 GHz
channel spacing or 37.5 GHz spacing. In Release 7.0, only 50 GHz spacing is used.
