class-IXModel Question Paper Coordinate Geometry

The document is a sample question paper for coordinate geometry for class 9. It contains 6 questions with multiple parts testing various concepts of coordinate geometry like plotting points, finding coordinates of points, identifying shapes formed by joining points, calculating distances and identifying components of the coordinate plane. The questions are divided into four sections with varying marks and include a case study based question at the end with the graph. An answer key is provided for the case study questions.

MODEL QUESTION PAPER

TOPIC: COORDINATE GEOMETRY

CLASS –IX(SESSION 2022-2023)

Section A(Carry 1 mark each)

1.
a) Find the distance of the points(0,-5) from the origin.
Ans:5 units
b) In which quadrant does the point (-1,2) lie?
Ans: 2nd quadrant

Section B(Carry 2 marks each)

2.

a) Plot the points P(1,4),Q(-2,1) and R(4,1).Name the figure obtained on joining
the points P,Q,R.
Ans: Triangle
b) Write the coordinate of the point :
i. Which lies on x and y axes both.
Ans: (0,0)
ii. Whose ordinate is -4 and which lies on y-axis.
Ans: (0,-4)

Section C(Carry 3 marks each)

3.

a) Points A(5,3),B(-2,3) and D(5,-4)are the three vertices of a square ABCD. Plot these
points on a graph paper and hence find the coordinates of the vertex C.
Ans: C(-2,-4)
b)
i. Write the points whose abscissa is 0.
ii. Write the points whose ordinate is 0.
iii. Write the points whose abscissa is -5.
Section D (Carry 4 marks each)

4.

a) Plot the following points, join them in order and identify the figure thus formed:
A(1,3),B(1,-1),C(7,-1) and D(7,3). Write the coordinates of the point of intersection
of the diagonals.
b) Plot the points A(1,-1) and B(4,5).
i. Draw a line segment joining these points. Write the coordinates of a point on
this line segment between the points A and B.
ii. Extend this line segment and write the coordinates of a point on this line
which lies outside the line segment AB.

Case Study Based Question

5. Rahul is a student of class IX and he loves the concept of Coordinate Geometry. He tried
to locate his home, School , hospital and market on Cartesian plane and he got the graph as
shown in the figure. Distances are in Km. Based on the above information, answer the
following questions
i. The distance from his home to his school is
(a) 5 Km (b) 3 Km (c) 2 Km (d) 8 km
ii. The distance of the hospital from the origin is :
(a) 5 Km (b) 2 Km (c) √29 Km (d) Can't say
iii. If we join all the four places, then the figure formed is: (a) a square (b) a
rectangle (c) a trapezium (d) a rhombus
iv. The area of the figure obtained by joining these four places is:
(a) 15 sq.Km (b) 40 sq.Km (c) 10 sq. km (d) none of these
v. The sum of abscissa of market and ordinate of school is : (a) 0 (b)-1 (c) 1 (d) 6

Answer key: i(d) ii (c)iii ( b)iv ( b) v ( a)
