REVIEW: NGHE HIỂU ĐẠI Ý

Bài 1/

1) Good Afternoon. My name's Debbie Green and I'm going to give you a short but hopefully
interesting introduction to working at this hospital. I'll start with some guidelines about nutrition and
fitness ….er…because a hospital environment can be stressful, and so we always encourage our staff
to stay fit and have a healthy lifestyle. So just a few tips first. As you know, the key to good health is
eating what we call 'a balanced diet'; many people don't do this, however. For one thing. they don't
eat enough fruit and vegetables or home-prepared food. When you feel hungry, it's often too easy to
grab something quick. because you’re tired or busy cooking a healthy meal takes longer, and this is
often why people live on sandwiches and fast food instead Please - don't fall into this unhealthy trap.

2) Of course, you have to do a little exercise and keep fit as well. I know you'll have a lot of work and
may not have time to join a gym but consider how often you take the " lift. rather than the stairs or
how often you drive rather than walk. Health wise, it may just be a question of doing things
differently, rather than starting a very active sport

3) In fact, being generally active is much healthier than doing lots of exercise just occasionally. As
you know, this can be risky for your heart as being inactive. As long as you do at least an hour's
exercise a day- and some of you will do more than that at work- you'll find that you don't he awake at
night worrying about the next day - and that's the main advantage of exercise Remember - this is a
hospital, and you are supposed to be the healthiest people here!

4) Moving on to health and safety, I want to point out that it's quite OK to take a break any time that
you're not busy. We know that when there's an emergency you may have to miss that cup of tea or
coffee in the canteen or wherever you go, but generally you shouldn't work for more than three hours
without a break, otherwise your attention levels will drop and you could then make a careless mistake
Another important issue is hygiene. You're all trained to clean your hands at work, but remember that
germs can live for a long time, so please make sure that you don't leave even a small amount of
rubbish around there are brooms in the cupboards, so use them. We do have cleaners, but they aren't
always here when you need them. I'm afraid, and a little dirt can soon build up.

Bài 1/tr.6-7:
TRAVEL AGENT: Good morning. World Tours. My name is Jamie. How can I help you?
ANDREA: Good morning. I want some information on self-drive tours in the USA. Could you send me a
brochure?
TRAVEL AGENT: Of course. Could I have your name please?
ANDREA: Andrea Brown.
TRAVEL AGENT: Thank you. And your address?
ANDREA: 24, Ardleiah Road.
TRAVEL AGENT: Can you spell that?
ANDREA: A-R-D-L-E-l-G-H Road.
TRAVEL AGENT: Postcode?
ANDREA: BH520P
TRAVEL AGENT: Thanks. And can I have your phone number?
ANDREA: Is a mobile alright?
TRAVEL AGENT: Fine.
ANDREA: It's 0778664309i.
TRAVEL AGENT: Thank you. And can I ask you where you heard about World Tours? From a friend? Or
did you see an advert somewhere?
ANDREA: No, I read about you in the newspaper
TRAVEL AGENT: OK, I’ll get the brochures in the post to you but can I give you some information over
the phone. What kinds of things do you want to do on your holiday?
ANDREA: I'm interested in going to California with my family. I’ve got two children and we want to
hire a car.
TRAVEL AGENT: OK. We have a couple of self-drive tours there visiting different places of interest in
California. The first one begins in Los Angeles and there's plenty of time to visit some of the theme
parks there.
ANDREA: That's something on my children’s list so I’d want to include that.
TRAVEL AGENT: Good. Then you drive to San Francisco. From San Francisco you can drive to Yosemite
Park where you spend a couple of nights. You can choose to stay in a lodge or on the campsite.

5 ZIM SCHOOL OF ENGLISH AND TEST PREPARATION | INTERMEDIATE LISTENING

ANDREA: I don’t like the idea of staying in a tent. It’d be too hot.
TRAVEL AGENT: Right. And the tour ends in Las Vegas.
ANDREA: OK.
TRAVEL AGENT: The other trip we can arrange is slightly different. It starts in San Francisco. Then you
drive south to Cambria.
ANDREA: Someone told me there’s a really nice castle near Cambria. Will we go near that?
TRAVEL AGENT: Hearst Castle is on that road so you could stop there.
ANDREA: Good. I’d like to do that. Does this trip also go into the desert?
TRAVEL AGENT: No, it continues to Santa Monica where most people like to stop and do some
shopping.
ANDREA: We have enough of that at home so that doesn’t interest us.
TRAVEL AGENT: OK. Well you could go straight on to San Diego.
ANDREA: That’s good for beaches. Isn't it?
TRAVEL AGENT: That’s right, that’s a good place to relax and your children might like to visit the zoo
before flying home.
ANDREA: I don’t think so. We want some time for sunbathing and swimming.
ANDREA: So how many days are the trips and how much do they cost?
TRAVEL AGENT: The first one I told you about is a self-drive tour through California which lasts twelve
days and covers Q7 2.020 kilometres. The shortest journey is 206 km and the longest is 632
kilometres. The cost is £525 per person. That includes accommodation, car rental and a Q8 flight but
no meals.
ANDREA: OK. And the other trip?
TRAVEL AGENT: That lasts nine days but you spend only three days on the road. You cover about 980
kilometres altogether.
ANDREA: So is that cheaper then?
TRAVEL AGENT: Yes, it’s almost a hundred pounds cheaper. It's £429 per person, which is a good deal.
ANDREA: So that covers accommodation and car hire. What about flights?
TRAVEL AGENT: They aren’t included. But these hotels offer dinner in the price.
ANDREA: OK. Well, thank you very much. I’ll be in touch when I’ve had a chance to look at the
brochure.
TRAVEL AGENT: I’m pleased to help. Goodbye

Bài 2/tr.8:
TC EMPLOYEE: Hi. Can I help you?
VISITOR: I’d like to find out if you have any excursions suitable for families.
TC EMPLOYEE: Sure. How about taking your family for a cruise? We have a steamship that takes
passengers out several times a day - it’s over 100 years old.
VISITOR: That sounds interesting. How long is the trip?
TC EMPLOYEE: About an hour and a half. And don’t forget to take pictures of the mountains. They’re
all around you when you’re on the boat and they look fantastic.
VISITOR: OK. And I assume there’s a café or something on board?
TC EMPLOYEE: Sure. How old are your children?
VISITOR: Er, my daughter’s fifteen and my son’s seven.
TC EMPLOYEE: Right. Well there are various things you can do once you’ve crossed the lake, to make
a day of it. One thing that’s very popular is a visit to the Country Farm.
You’re met off the boat by the farmer and he’ll take you to the holding pens, where the sheep are
kept. Children love feeding them!
VISITOR: My son would love that. He really likes animals,
TC EMPLOYEE: Well, there’s also a 40-minute trek round the farm on a horse, if he wants.
VISITOR: Do you think he’d manage it? He hasn’t done that before.
TC EMPLOYEE: Sure, It’s suitable for complete beginners.
VISITOR: Ah, good.
TC EMPLOYEE: And again, visitors are welcome to explore the farm on their own, as long as they take
care to close gates and so on. There are some very beautiful gardens along the side of the lake which
also belong to the farm - they’ll be just at their best now. You could easily spend an hour or two there.
VISITOR: OK. Well that all sounds good. And can we get lunch there?
TC EMPLOYEE: You can, and it’s very good, though it’s not included in the basic cost. You pay when
you get there.
VISITOR: Right.
VISITOR: So is there anything else to do over on that side of the lake?
TC EMPLOYEE: Well, what you can do is take a bike over on the ship and then go on a cycling trip.
There’s a trail there called the Back Road - you could easily spend three or four hours exploring it, and
the scenery’s wonderful.
They’ll give You a map when you get your ticket for the cruise - there’s no extra charge.
VISITOR: What’s the trail like in terms of difficulty?

8 ZIM SCHOOL OF ENGLISH AND TEST PREPARATION | INTERMEDIATE LISTENING

TC EMPLOYEE: Quite challenging in places. It wouldn’t be suitable for your seven-year-old. It needs
someone who’s got a bit more experience.
VISITOR: Hmm. Well, my daughter loves cycling and so do I, so maybe the two of us could go, and my
wife and son could stay on the farm. That might work out quite well. But we don’t have bikes here... is
there somewhere we could rent them?
TC EMPLOYEE: Yes, there’s a place here in the city. It’s called Ratchesons.
VISITOR: I’ll just make a note of that - er, how do you spell it?
TC EMPLOYEE: R-A-T-C-H-E-S-O-N-S. it’s just by the cruise ship terminal.
VISITOR: OK.
TC EMPLOYEE: You’d also need to pick up a repair kit for the bike from there to take along with you,
and you’d need to take along a snack and some water - it’d be best to get those in the city.
VISITOR: Fine. That shouldn’t be a problem. And I assume I can rent a helmet from the bike place?
TC EMPLOYEE: Sure, you should definitely get that. It’s a great ride, but you want to be well prepared
because it’s very remote - you won’t see any shops round there, or anywhere to stay, so you need to
get back in time for the last boat.
VISITOR: Yeah. So what sort of prices are we looking at here?
TC EMPLOYEE: Let’s see, that’d be one adult and one child for the cruise with farm tour, that’s $117,
and an adult and a child for the cruise only so that’s $214 dollars altogether. Oh, wait a minute, how
old did you say your daughter was?
VISITOR: Fifteen.
TC EMPLOYEE: Then I’m afraid it’s $267 because she has to pay the adult fare, which is $75 instead of
the child fare which is $22 - sorry about that.
VISITOR: That’s OK. Er, so how do………………

Bài 3/tr.9
OFFICER: Good morning. What can I do for you?
LOUISE: I want to report a theft. I had some things stolen out of my bag yesterday.
OFFICER: I’m sorry to hear that. Right, so I'll need to take a few details. Can I start with your name?
LOUISE: LOUISE Taylor.
OFFICER: OK, thank you. And are you resident in the UK?
LOUISE: No, I’m actually (Q1) Canadian, though my mother was British.
OFFICER: And your date of birth?
LOUISE: December 14th, 1977.
OFFICER: So you’re just visiting this country?
LOUISE: That’s right. I come over most summers on business. I’m an interior designer and I come over
to buy old furniture, (Q2) antiques you know. There are some really lovely things around here, but
you need to get out to the small towns. I’ve had a really good trip this year, until this happened.
OFFICER: OK. So you’ve been here quite a while?
LOUISE: Yes, I’m here for two months. I go back next week.
OFFICER: So may I ask where you’re staying now?
LOUISE: Well at present I’ve got a place at (Q3) Park Apartments, that’s on King Street. I was staying
at the Riverside Apartments on the same street, but the apartment there was only available for six
weeks so I had to find another one.
OFFICER: OK. And the apartment number?
LOUISE: Fifteen.
LOUISE: Right.
OFFICER: Now, I need to take some details of the theft. So you said you had some things stolen out of
your bag?
LOUISE: That’s right.
OFFICER: And were you actually carrying the bag when the theft took place?
LOUISE: Yes. I really can’t understand it. I had my backpack on. And I went into a supermarket to buy
a few things and when I opened it up my wallet wasn’t there.
OFFICER: And what did your wallet have in it?
LOUISE: Well, fortunately I don’t keep my credit cards in that wallet - I keep them with my passport in
an inside compartment in my backpack. But there was quite a bit of cash there ... about Q4) £250

sterling, I should think. I withdrew £300 from my account yesterday, but I did a bit of shopping, so I
must have already spent about £50 of that.
OFFICER: OK.
LOUISE: At first I thought, oh I must have left the wallet back in the apartment, but then I realised my
(Q5) phone had gone as well. It was only a week old, and that's when
I realised I’d been robbed. Anyway at least they didn’t take the keys to my rental car.
OFFICER: Yes. So you say the theft occurred yesterday?
LOUISE: Yes.
OFFICER: So that was (Q6) September the tenth. And do you have any idea at all of where
or when the things might possibly have been stolen?
LOUISE: Well at first I couldn’t believe it because the bag had been on my back ever since I left the
apartment after lunch. It’s just a small backpack, but I generally use it when I'm travelling because it
seems safer than a handbag. Anyway, I met up with a friend, and we spent a couple of hours in the
museum. (Q7) But I do remember that as we were leaving there, at about 4 o’clock, a group of young
boys ran up to us, and they were really crowding round us, and they were asking us what (Q8) time it
was, then all of a sudden they ran off.
OFFICER: Can you remember anything about them?
LOUISE: The one who did most of the talking was wearing a T-shirt with a picture of
something ... let’s see ... a tiger.
OFFICER: Right. Any idea of how old he might have been?
LOUISE: Around twelve years old?
OFFICER: And can you remember anything else about his appearance?
LOUISE: Not much. He was quite thin ...
OFFICER: Colour of hair?
LOUISE: I do remember that - he was (Q9) blond. All the others were dark-haired.
OFFICER: And any details of the others?
LOUISE: Not really. They came and went so quickly.
OFFICER: Right. So what I’m going to do now is give you a crime reference number so you can contact
your insurance company. So this is ten digits: 87954 82361. (Q10)
LOUISE: Thank you. So should I…

Bài 4 – Part 2/tr10-11
Good morning everyone. I hope you're all feeling OK after the activities of the last week or so. I know
you've all been working very hard recently and we've been exceptionally busy. especially with the
wedding last weekend and the trade fair straight after that. And now we have only three days to
prepare for the birthday party this weekend. The events recently have gone extremely well and the
hotel is beginning to get a very good reputation. so we need to keep it up. At the moment. we don't
have exact numbers of guests and though we usually only cater for groups of less than 50, we will
have quite a few more than that. So, as I said, not sure of numbers but we won’t go over the
maximum of 100.
But it's likely that we will need all of you to work this weekend so if any of you can't. Please let me
know as soon as possible. Right — so what time will the event start? Well the invitation says guests
should arrive between 7.30 and 7.45 but our experience is that there are always a few who like to
arrive early so we'll expect the first people at 7.15. As the numbers are quite large. this will certainly
be the case. Food will be served at around 8.30 and then depending on how long the meal takes; the
entertainment will start about two hours later. Now, for this, we were expecting a live band for the
occasion which is always fun. but apparently this has been cancelled due to illness. So — the hosts
know someone who is a comedian who will be replacing the band. We had hoped that the resident
magician who worked here through the summer would be able to help out but they weren't keen on
that idea.
