Abstract
The purpose of the study is to uncover modern ideas about the essence of the concept of “sport”.
Methods of Research: Include an analysis of special literature, which covers various aspects of the development of the field of human
activities associated with the use of physical exercises.
The Results of the Analysis: Shows that sport as a special socio-cultural phenomenon is a historically determined activity of people
connected with the use of physical exercises, which is aimed at preparation and participation in competitions, as well as individual and socially
significant results of such activity.
