PROJECT BACKGROUND

INTRODUCTION

Many users benefit from the new user experience that is created by the speech
integration with IoT devices. By this year, 20% of American adults—or 47.3 million people—will
have smart speakers. The report also mentions that adoption is predicted to increase by 50%
just this year. Google Assistant, Apple's Siri, Amazon's Alexa, and Microsoft's Cortana are the
current leaders in the IoT voice space. In 2011, Siri was the first to appear and managed iPhone
applications.
The expansion of technology developments and the emergence of the internet of things
(IoT) go hand in hand. The world has gone digital, and as a result, the need for quicker, wiser,
and more precise technology has increased tremendously. This is where IoT enters the picture
since it gives organizations the tools, they need to effectively meet these standards without the
need for human participation. But how much internet access do these gadgets truly require?
The internet of things (IoT) is a network of real-world objects like furniture, cars, and
household appliances that are equipped with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and
connections to gather and share data. It is not necessary to use the internet for this network
capability or data transmission. One of the most widespread misunderstandings regarding IoT
devices is that they require an internet connection in order to work. That is untrue. An IoT
device may connect with other devices and people via a variety of methods, some of which do
not even require the internet.
IoT devices may keep an eye on their internal conditions or external surroundings and
take appropriate action. The potential is enormous since everything may now be linked, from
industrial machines to residential products, drastically altering how we live and work. It might
be difficult to decide which gadgets your business needs, how to set them up for success, and if
that calls for a reliable internet connection.
The demand for voice control grows along with the number of individuals using linked
technologies. Users are pleased to incorporate technology into their cars, homes, and
healthcare lives since it makes daily life easier. The IoT voice industry is still dominated by the
major players, but new, innovative businesses are vying for market share. Every prediction
suggests that linked and intuitive technology will rule the future of gadgets and devices. They
will be embraced by society and used to their full capacity the quicker they add exciting
functionalities like these.
Apple users have access to Siri, a voice-activated personal assistant. She wants to assist
you in getting things done, whether it's scheduling a dinner reservation or sending a message,
so the idea is that you speak to her like you would a friend. Siri can access every other built-in
programme on your Apple iPhone, including Mail, Contacts, Messages, Maps, Safari, and more.

She can use these apps to provide information or conduct database searches as necessary. In
the end, Siri takes care of everything.

USAGE OR IMPLEMENTATION

Apple's personal digital assistant, Siri, leverages machine learning and natural speech to do
tasks including performing activities, returning relevant search results, and more. Here is some
information on Siri.
The iOS software Siri was made available in February 2010. When the iPhone 4S was released
on October 4, 2011, Apple acquired the standalone app two months later and removed it from
the iOS App Store. Since then, Siri has become an essential component of Apple products,
having been incorporated into newer iPhone models, iPads, iPod Touches, Macs, AirPods, Apple
TVs, and HomePods.
Using Siri, you may complete various tasks more quickly and conveniently. Siri has a lot of great
features and is one of the greatest intelligent voice assistants. You can communicate with Siri
by asking questions, requesting directions, sending texts and emails, making reservations, and
more. Since Siri just alters your voice or language, configuring it is very easy.
Siri shortcuts, a new feature presented at last year’s WWDC, offer the ability to perform certain
functionalities of the application in the background. We do not have to turn on the application
to use these functionalities in the application, we can simply say to Siri, e.g. “Burger Time” and
the system knows to which application this shortcut is assigned and orders a burger for us.
Siri has undergone significant improvements and can now communicate with other Internet of
Things-controlled gadgets like smart lights and thermostats. Siri can be voice-activated to order
an Uber, make appointments, and even send SMS messages.
A wide range of user commands are supported by Siri, including carrying out phone operations,
checking basic information, setting up events and reminders, managing device settings,
conducting Internet searches, navigating through different locations, and finding information on
entertainment. Siri is also able to interact with iOS-integrated apps.

ADVANTAGES

The app, Siri, which is available on the iPhone and iPad devices of Apple Inc., has been shown to
have advantages over other voice recognition apps. First and foremost, Siri is available on all
Apple products. So, no matter which device you are using, you will always have Siri available to
use. This is a huge advantage over apps that are only available on certain platforms or devices
that cost more money to purchase. Another benefit of Siri is its accuracy. There are many times
when I use other apps that have trouble understanding what I am saying. This usually results in
the app asking me to rephrase my question. However, with Siri this does not happen. Siri
understands my request and responds to it accurately every time. Another major benefit of Siri
is that it can remember information for me. For example, if I tell Siri to call my girlfriend, she
will then call my girlfriend without me having to enter the number myself each time I call her.
Having an app that can keep track of this information for me is a huge benefit because it makes
my life so much easier. Overall, Siri is an extremely useful tool that I use on a daily basis.

DISADVANTAGES

There are many advantages to using Siri in Apple products, but there is one disadvantage that
cannot be overlooked. Siri can be easily misunderstood and misused by users. This can lead to
misunderstandings and disputes that could have easily been avoided if the user had used the
more conventional interface of the Apple product. This can be very frustrating for users who
want to get the most out of their devices, and they may even decide to abandon the device
altogether rather than endure the frustration of trying to communicate with Siri. Another
disadvantage to using Siri is that it can be somewhat awkward to have to speak with your
device. This is especially problematic if the device is in a pocket or purse, where it is harder to
hear and more difficult for a user to speak clearly. By allowing the user to speak to the
computer via a voice-activated function, Apple has eliminated the use of the traditional
keyboard interface, but they have also created an environment where it can be easy.

CONCLUSION
A virtual assistant called Siri is a feature of Apple Inc.'s operating systems. By directing requests
to a variety of Internet services, it employs voice queries, gesture-based control, focus-tracking,
and a natural-language user interface to respond to inquiries, offer advice, and carry out tasks.
With prolonged use, it learns the unique language usages, searches, and preferences of users
and returns results that are tailored to them. Siri has access to every other built-in application
on Apple device - Mail, Contacts, Messages, Maps, Safari and so on - and will call upon those
apps to present data or search through their databases whenever she needs to. Ultimately, Siri
does all the legwork for us.
