Unidad UNIT 1 – NEW BUSINESS
Objetivo de aprendizaje
At end of this unit, the student will be able to discuss ideas and challenges to
start up a business. This unit will be very helpful for students to understand the
use of business vocabulary related to innovation which can be very useful in
their project “feria empresarial” where they have to create a business idea.

Ss answer individually the following questions in a forum.
Why do people start their own business?
What are the challenges of setting up a new business?
What kind of person starts a new business? What makes a successful entrepreneur?
Ss read individually an article related to start-ups with pop-ups following the PDF document
provided in the communication channel.

Create a survey with Ss opinion about start-ups in the collaborate session having the following
options:
What is your opinion about setting up a new business?
It is very difficult// It is very expensive// It is well worth a try// It is a challenge.
T and Ss define the concept of start-ups.
T shows the new vocabulary from U.9 provided in the article previously read by Ss.
Ss and T check together the meaning of the new vocabulary words and match the words to the
definitions on book p. 59 act. 5 & 6
Ss practice the new vocabulary learnt by playing kahoot on the following link:

(Individually) Ss now listen to an audio about James Murray talking about his business. Ss

make notes about the following aspects:

Biggest challenge
Marketing
Advice
During the audio the T guides Ss to find the answers and check them together, after having the
audio played twice.
Actividades después de la sesión 30min
Ss work in small groups and create one start-up business idea about a product or service that is
innovative in the place where they live.
Ss will have to choose one idea and post on the forum the answers to the following questions.
What’s your opinion of the business idea? How successful could it be?
What help might someone need setting up this business? Who could they approach for
finance? What advice would you give?
What problems or challenges might the business face?
