Module 5

This document discusses the moment distribution method for analyzing structures. It first describes finding the fixed end moments of each beam based on its loading. It then explains determining the stiffness factor and distribution factor of each member meeting at a joint. The method is to distribute the unbalanced moment at each joint based on the distribution factors, and repeat this process until the moment values converge. The steps also include applying end corrections if needed and carrying over any remaining moment.

STEPS IN SOLVING:
1) Isolate each member of the given structure as Fixed Beams.
2) Find the fixed end moments of each beam separately based on respective loading
conditions
3) Find the stiffness factor of each member meeting at a joint taking each joint separately
4) Find the distribution factor of each member meeting at a joint separately
5) Apply end corrections, if any
6) Distribute the algebraic unbalanced moment at a joint based on distribution factor
7) Do carry over moment, if any
8) Repeat the steps 6 & 7 until the moment values converges
