CHAPTER-1INTRODUCTION1.

Project overview

Washing machine is a machine that quickly washes clothes, linens and

other item. Before the invention of the washing machine, people spent

hours doing their laundry by hand. Some people soaked their clothes in

stream and then beat them on rocks to get out of dirt. The rapid

advancement in technology has been given rise to the washing machine

which is widely used in present day`s society. Electrical washing

machine is a light weight machine operated with dc motor which is

connected to battery or AC to DC converter so this washing machine

uses conventional energy source. The components used for designing

this washing machine are DC motors, motor driver and battery,

Arduino, switches. In this washing machine spinner also operated on AC

supply.

1.2 Automation:
On fully automated washing machines, you don’t need to wet your hands just put
in your clothes, turn the machine on, and wait for it to finish washing and drying.
On semiautomatic machines, you have to manually transfer the clothes from the
washer to the dryer.

Statement of the Problem:

Embedded system washing machine is the most common method to solve non linear and
dynamic problems. Non embedded system which the transition from set to set is
instantaneous, the transition in fuzzy logic may be gradual. This make fuzzy controller
has smooth response.
Implementing algorithms in software limits the performance of real-time systems, since
the data is processed serially. A fuzzy inference system has been implemented on an
FPGA.
In control engineer the most common approaches to implement fuzzy controller are fuzzy
controller chip or microcontroller. Our project decribes an approach to implement fuzzy
controller using Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA).
The advantages of the FPGA approach to fuzzy controller implementation include higher
sampling rate than traditional fuzzy chips and more flexible than fuzzy chip or
microcontroller also attracting the interest of the real-time
applications. With enhanced capabilities most of the processing tasks can be loaded from
the software program stack to embedded processors on the FPGA to improve
performance and reduce the cost of the whole system. A fuzzy inference system has been
implemented on an FPGA, and used to control a motor in a washing machine, and all
parts. The given results demonstrate the capability of such embedded controller in
washing machine applications where simplicity, reliability and stability are more
important issues
We can build or change facilities in controller that fuzzy chips and microcontrollers don’t
have.
Washer is a significant application in Gaza strip, because we want to help civil society.
The control board is one of the important problems in Gaza, which suffering from siege,
so we want to do this project to solve some of this problem.
the government and the companies which deal with this product (washing machine )
should be care on this task, because it will solve big problem in our life and it will
encourage the youth in our country to do some project which can help people in there
life

1.5 Project Report Organization

After the preliminary section, the main body which covers chapter 1 to

5 follows suit. The chapter 1 of the project report (The

introduction), it explains the project background, statement of the

problem surrounding the project, the aims and objectives of the

project, the scope of the project. The chapter 2 of this project report

(literature review) deals with the review of related project works,

the summary of the recent project and the theoretical framework.

The chapter 3 of this project report (Methodology) gives a full detail

of the project. The chapter 4 is the project results and discussions. The

chapter 5 of this project report is the summary and conclusion. Then

follows the reference and Appendix.

AIMS
The aims of this project is to design and implement an economically-
viable washing machine that is programmed using embedded system
technique that can be used by the average adult entrepreneur. The
machine must clean as well or better, and in less time than hand-
washing.

1.2 Objectives
The objectives of this study is divided in to the following parts which are
as follows:
To design a power supply which activate each unit by energizing
the units with the desired voltage.

To program the control unit that drives and control all interfaced
components and devices connected to the Arduino board.

To construct a timer that control the time required for spinning and
washing exercises.

To construct an automatic washing machine.

1.6 The scope of the project
This project covers the following features:
Hardware description

Power supply design

Control unit design

Motor Control Unit

Timer Unit

Display Unit

1.7 Statement of problems

The washing machine! Thanks to this wonderful appliance, we no longer have to beat our garments over
rocks or scrub them by hand with abrasive sand or stone. Today, many households and organizations in
Nigeria own a washing machine. Due to the fact that each system may encounter some challenges
during its operation, but what happens when we have washing machine problems? this project has
the following challenges.

1.Problem of power supply, as the public power supply is not constant

1. Washing Machine is Leaking: The washers or seals may wear out. Washers sit on the water fill hose
and ensure no water escapes.

2. Washing Machine Is Noisy: Washing machine vibration problems are common. Loud noises could
simply mean something is bouncing around, e.g. coins from the pocket of a pair of pants.
3. Washing Machine Moves Around: It’s not unusual for a washing machine to move about a bit during a
wash cycle. However, if it’s bouncing around loudly, there could be another issue. Most commonly, this
simply means the washing machine isn’t level on the ground.

4. Washing Machine Won’t Spin: If your washing machine won’t spin, it’s often because it’s overloaded
with too much clothing or linens. Overloading the appliance can stop it from spinning, so try removing
some items. If that’s not the issue, you may have a blocked drain pump.

5. Washing Machine Won’t Fill with Water: Drum not filling with water? First, check the water hoses.
These may simply be kinked, stopping the flow of water, or there could be a blockage inside that needs
to be removed.

6. Washer Is Smelly: Washing machines may begin to smell due to a build-up of bacteria and grime

7. Washing Machine Won’t Turn On: When a washing machine won’t turn on or stops during a cycle, it’s
usually a problem with the power source. Check your circuit breaker first; it may simply need to be
reset.

8. Washer Is Ruining Clothing.

1.4 Project methodology

The set of methods and principles used to achieve the project can be referred to as the bottom-up
methodology. This is so as to obtain reuse-ability of the design, making use of the predefined
module and components as follows:
