SUMMARY:

Teenage pregnancy is a worldwide health problem that harms birth outcomes

and can cause poverty and poor health to pass down through generations. In all
contexts, populations experiencing social and economic deprivation have a higher
chance of having adolescent pregnancies. Increased exposure to domestic violence
(which may be made worse by the pregnancy), mental health conditions, substance
abuse, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), financial hardship, and homelessness are
just a few social and health effects of young pregnancies.

Teenage pregnancy is significant because it can impede a person's education

and training, with varying chances for restart. Teenagers in Australia who become
pregnant are more likely than those who do not to be from a low socioeconomic
background, to have lived in unstable housing, and to be reliant on social support.

Preventing teen pregnancy necessitates extensive initiatives involving the

community, health services, and schools. In particular, a combination of contraceptive
interventions and sexuality education is beneficial in lowering teen not planned
pregnancies. 90% of Australians reported using contraception during their first sexual
encounter, with condoms being the most popular option among young people. The oral
contraceptive pill was used, which they frequently started for reasons other than
contraception.

For some young women, pregnancy in adolescence can have a transformative

impact on changing unhealthy behaviors and relationships. However, for many, teenage
pregnancy is accompanied by adverse perinatal outcomes and long-term social and
educational consequences.

REACTION:

Teenage pregnancy is indeed a global issue and also it is very alarming because
despite the status of a country there is still a rising cases of it. I think the arising cases
of teenage pregnancy is cause by lack of knowledge in sex education. I also realize that
sex education is important specially on teens that is on their adolescent stage. If we are
able to educate them then somehow the cases might drop because of sex education,
we could make them knowledgeable and most importantly the uses of contraceptive
and condoms. To add up about the realization on teenage pregnancy is that the family
affair could also be a factor.

The positive impact of the article is that it was able to tackle the reasons and
also, what are the possible growth of factors that can affect teenage pregnancy. Its
negative impact is that it lacks about how could the family help the teenager who’s
experiencing this.

As a student nurse the implication of the article is that education is really

important to prevent teenage pregnancy because through it the teens are not now
knowledge deficit about the said issue. Also, we could do such activity for example a
symposium that tackles the said problem and how can they pass through it.
