WALL LAYOUT, DESIGN, AND EDITING

Place walls
Split and fillet walls
Align walls
Use wall trim tools

Create new project

Browse---Template file(file extension =rte)---default template---ok.
in build panel— choose wall architecture--- modify tab appears
properties(choose wall types)(generic wall type=mostly used for conceptual
design)
choose exterior cmu metal stud wall type----edit type
Place Wall tab --- Draw panel select Line.

Pick a point in the view to start the wall.

Options Bar ---- Chain( two or more walls are connected.)

View Control(at bottom) --- Detail Level

modify options= location line, chain, offset, height

can modify dimension by editing the existing dimensions
select multiple walls=cntrl+select multiple walls----- flip multiple walls at
once= spacebar.

Left to right drag in selection = selcts object only within window

WALL LAYOUTS
Refrence line ----Snapping to remote objects
Apply alignment constraints to wall
Padlock = to move two walls on the same alignment
simultaneously
Create similar(CS)= Inherit similar properties of selected wall
Double escape = to remove command or stop
Click modify= stop in single click
Striaght curve walls
Clockwise nature of revit= external face on outside

Wall views=Work with bidirectional associativity and

multiple views

• Define bidirectional associativity.

How revit allows us to edit one view while updating the others
Properties show = floor plan level one
Project browser panel = double click south
• Work with multiple views.

View panel= default 3d view

Tab view(tw)
TILE VIEW(WT)
TO REMOVE LEVEL LINES
VIEW TAB ----GRAPHICS PANEL—ANNOTATION----
UNCHECK LEVEL—APPLY—OK
• Switch and tile views.

TO ZOOM ALL TILES VIEW= ZOOM ALL (ZA)

TO ZOOM PARTICULAR TILE VIEW= ZOOM (ZF)

• Constrain walls to levels.

SELCT ALL WALLS—PROPERTIES PANEL

Level annotation change the height by typing

SPLIT WALL
• Apply the Split Element and Split With Gap tools to a wall segment.

SPLIT WALL GAP

MODIFY- SELCECT WALL

PALCE SPLIT WITH A GAP(FR EXMAPLE 4 INCH) ON THE WALL

UNLOCK PADLOCK CONTRAINT ----- JOIN THE WALL (CLICK T TO JOIN THW WALL) FROM BOTH SIDES

TO MAKE WALL INTO ONE ENTITY. SELECT WALL END POINT AND CLICK OR DRAG .
SPLIT ELEMENT.(SL)
MODIFY --- WALL—SPLIT ELEMENT---SELECT AND PLACE THE SPLIT EL.

CHECK DELETE INNER SEGMENT (TO DELETE THE IN BETWWEN WALL BETWWEN TWO SPLIT ELEMENTS AS WE PLACE)---

AFTER ESC. IF WE WANT RESELECT EXISTING SPLIT ELEMENT AGAIN ----- THEN SELECT THE WALL --- PRESS TAB MULTIPLE
TIMES TO RESET THE SPLIT ELEMENT

FILLET WALLS
Fillet command is not a modify tool

Instead it is a draw tool can be found in draw panel

Create similar(cs)(for curved wall radius = same wall type)

Select fillet from draw panel.

Select Vertical wall first and adjacent wall second.

SET A FILLET RADIUS DURING AND PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION.

Selct radius ---set radius --- click fillet radius---apply to walls—flip the wall if needed

ALIGN WALLS
• Align walls to each other.

MODIFY--- SELECT WALL -----PRPOERTIES PANEL--- EDIT TYPE--- PREVIEW

In Type Parameters, in the Construction section, next to Structure, click Edit.

In the Edit Assembly dialog, review the Layers. Click Cancel twice to close the dialogs. Click in empty
space to deselect the wall.

ZOOM

Align left hand face of interior wall to left hand face of exterior wall
MODIFY---align---options bar(prefer—wall faces, multiple allingment)

Selct refrence wall and then selct the wall to be aligned

Click on padlock for alignment constraint according to need.

Option bar prefer—wall centerline=aligns along centerline of the wall

Faces of core=

Centre of core

Multiple alignment—can align multiple things to a single refrence

• Apply locked alignment constraint to wall segments.

TRIM EXTEND WALL

Trim and extend walls to form a corner.

Modify – three trim tools

 Trim extend corner (TR)= ALWAYS CLICK ON THE WALL TO KEEP FIRST AND THEN
FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER WALL
 TRIM/EXTEND Single element =(IN CASE NOT LOOSE ANY WALL BUT ONLY EXTEND OR TRIM)
 CHOOSE REFRENCE WALL FIRST AND THEN OTHER WALL FOR TRIM OR EXTEND
 Multiple time EXTEND element= CHOOSE MAIN REFRECE WALL AND THEN OTHER WALLS
SIMULATEOUSLY BY DRAGGING A BOX AT ONCE

Slect first wall to keep and second wall to remove

• Trim and extend a single wall to another.

• Trim and extend multiple walls.

CREATE WALLL TYPES

1. Create a new multi-layer wall type.
2. Add materials to layers.
3. Modify the function and thickness of layers.
4. Substitute existing walls with new wall type
Walls are system families and are stored within project files .

New wall like any other system family are created by choosing existing wall (in the case)

Duplicating it naming it and modifying to suit.

Two new ways to create new wall types

Can select wall type in properties pallete and then further modify it

Can selct wall that already exist in the building use in the drawing area and use that to duplicate and
create new wall type

SELCT ONE OTHE METHOD

1. CHOOSE A WALL ---- EDIT TYPE (PROPERTIES PANEL)---- DUPLICTE—NAME(FOR EX. -

8”INSULATED STUD) OK
2. EDIT SRUCTURE OF WALL—TYPE PARAMETER(STRUCTURE)---VALUE(EDIT).
3. EDIT ASSEMBLY ---- ADD TWO ADDITIONAL LAYERS AND TWO LAYERS WILL BECOME
FINISHES---- SELECT MATERIAL AND THICKNESS ACCORDINGLY ----OKAY---APPLY
4. TO APPLY TO ALL WALLS---- SELCT SINGLE WALL—RIGHT CLICK-----ALL INSTANCES---VISIBLE
IN VIEW/ENTIRE PROJECT---OKAY

 FUNCTIONS --FINISH(1)
 EXPLANATION OF TESE BRACKETED NUMBERS FROM DROP DOWN FUNCTION OPTION
 THESE NO.S ARE PRIORITY CLEANUP NO.S (FINISH(1)
 NO 1 IS THE TOP PRIORITY AND SO ON….

WHAT DO NO.S PRIORITY CLENAUP DO

TWO WALLS JOINED TOGETHER--- LAYERS COINCIDE---IF TWO LAYERS OF THE SAME PRIORITY NO
CROSSOVER EACH OTHER AND THEY SHARE THE SAME MATERIAL--- WILL BLEND INTO ONE
ANOTHER

HIGHER PRIORITY NO CROSSOVER LOWER PRIORITY NO------ THEN IT WILL CUT THROUGH THOSE
LAYERS ABD IT WILL CLEANUP APPROPRIATELY.

ONE HAS ONE MATERIAL THE OTHER HAS A DIFFERENT MATERIAL THEN THERE WILL BE A DIVIDING
LINE TO DIFFERNTIATE BETWEEN THE TWO.

PRACTICE
CLICK TAB TO HIGHLIGHT WAALS AND THEN RHGT CLICK TO SELECT ALL AT ONCE.

DOOR AND WINDOW LAYOUT AND DESIGN

LOAD DOOR FAMILIES INTO A PROJECT

Door are hosted families

Doors are component families(stored outside a project within a library)

HAVE THEIR DEFAULT TYPE

HAVE(.RFA) EXTENSION

DOOR(DR)

FOUND ON ARCHITECTURE TAB AND BUILD PANEL

If we change aanything it will effect the properties of any door of the same type that have already
inserted

Insert door (tag on placement = on /of) = to add tag to the door automatically while insert

For single leaf door = hit spacebar to reverse swing direction of the door leaf

After placement door if want to change the orientation of the door hit spacebar

Place door using create similar

PLACE WINDOWS

Open West elevation(project browser)

3d view

Tile both views = tile views

Za for zoom all views to default

Windows = component families (stored outside a project within a library and have their own file type)

To select only windows

Use selction filter (choose all widows in the wall at once )

Drag and selct the whole wall with windows ----- selction panel --- click filter--- check none—click windows---
enter

Properties pallete

Instance parameters--- change sill height
