Palindrome Numbers

This document discusses palindrome numbers, which are numbers that read the same forward and backward, such as 121. It shows the squares of single-digit numbers up to nine digits long, all of which are palindromes. The document notes these were shared widely on WhatsApp and explains that palindrome properties of numbers were first calculated in 850 CE by Indian mathematician Mahavira, who found the square of 111111 to be the palindrome 12345654321, centuries before other parts of the world adopted the decimal number system.

Palindrome Numbers

By Chandrahas M. Halai

1x1=1
11 x 11 = 121
111 x 111 = 12321
1111 x 1111 = 1234321
11111 x 11111 = 123454321
111111 x 111111 = 12345654321
1111111 x 1111111 = 1234567654321
11111111 x 11111111 = 123456787654321
111111111 x 111111111 = 12345678987654321

I have received this as Whatsapp forward from many of my contacts with the title Number
Magic. All the squares calculated here are Palindrome Numbers. Palindrome Numbers are
the numbers which when read from either left-to-right or right-to-left come out to be the
same.

You might be wondering who must have been the person to come out with this fascinating
thing. It was Digambara Jain monk Mahavira (815 - 877 CE). In his book Ganitasarasangraha
written around 850 CE he had calculated the value for
111111 x 111111 = 12345654321
At that time the rest of the world didn't even know how to count using decimal numbers.
