AND PRINCIPLES

SAQA US ID: 244716

UNIT STANDARD TITLE:

 Demonstrate understanding of the operating principles of hydraulic

components
(Please be advised that this course has been accredited by MERSETA)

PURPOSE:

• The skills, values and knowledge reflected in this unit standard are
required by people in the field of Fluid Power Engineering who are
to trouble shoot, repair and apply hydraulic components

REQUIRED PRIOR LEARNING

• Grade 10 Science and mathematics

SPECIFIC OUTCOMES

• Demonstrate understanding of hydraulic components.

• Demonstrate understanding of applications for hydraulic
components.
• Setup various hydraulic components.
• Demonstrate understanding of induced forces within hydraulic
components.

Range: This standard is limited to the following components: relief valves,

check valves, pressure regulators, sequence valves, over-centre valves,
cylinders, pressure compensated flow regulators - three way and 2 way,
throttle valves, directional valves, accumulators, filters, heat exchangers,
gear, vane and piston pumps and motors.
CROSS FIELD EDUCATION TRAINING OUTCOME

• Identify and solve problems

• Work efficiently with others
• Organize and manage time and activities
• Communicate effectively.
• Use science and technology
• Demonstrate an understanding of the world
as a set of related systems.
